A rare and exciting opportunity has come up with an established premium brand based in the Midlands. You will have strong management experience, to develop the merchandising team and the processes across their business. You will continuously monitor market activity, gathering market intelligence from a wide variety of sources in order to take appropriate commercial action.

Head of Merchandising– The Role

* Develop and optimise the buying process for the brand.

* For seasonal buys establishing and executing a process which balances stock availability with revenue growth and sell through.

* For never out of stock lines which are replenished through each year establishing an efficient process which aims to maximise availability whilst minimising stock levels in the business at any given time.

* Deliver on a comprehensive KPI set for merchandising, covering stock levels, rate of stock turnover and SKU availability.

* Collaborate with the Creative Director and the Wholesale team to provide commercial input into range development, identifying both opportunities and risks based on merchandising insight.

* Lead the merchandising team in proactively identifying where stock presents commercial opportunities, such as selling slow moving retail stock to wholesale accounts or using the retail channel to sell through a core line with an impending design change.

* Lead the team in such a way to ensure that the right stock is in the right place at the right time.

* Provide full support on day to day trading across the three channels of the business, helping identify and execute opportunities to move stock between channels to maximise sell through and gross profit.

* Develop the stock waterfall to maximise the gross profit opportunity of seasonal collections, including developing optimal (and low input) channels for clearance.

* Develop the processes and systems around stock management (in conjunction with the finance and ops teams) to ensure that they are simplified but not simplistic.

* Define, own and deliver the Merchandising critical path in terms of timely planning and forecasting at channel and gender product level.

* Lead the team to optimise each seasonal buy, balancing stock availability with stock level efficiency, working hand in hand with finance, operations and creative teams.

* Continuously monitor market activity, gathering market intelligence from a wide variety of sources in order to take appropriate commercial action.

* Provide insight through each season (and at the end of each season) to assist in the development of future collections as well as gross profit maximisation opportunities.

* Monitor KPI performance against plan– taking action where appropriate in current or future seasons.

* Review and analyse sales for quarterly planning/seasonal planning.

* Line management responsibility for the merchandising team.

* Develop the merchandising team and the processes within the business to be best in class, aiming to strip out unnecessary complexity to ensure the team can focus on the needs of the business.

* Develop a culture of business partnering, meeting the distinct needs of each of the channels as well as production.

* With the CFO, develop the merchandising roadmap, and keep up to date. Ensure that the team are able to deliver their parts of the roadmap.

* Monitor the team's overall output and team work daily and identify and implement strategies to deliver/increase productivity.

* Provide thought leadership to the team and develop individuals' ability to think for themselves.

* Identify areas of the activity where Merchandising can help the business (whether by adding value or by handling processes which are handled by other teams such as uniform buying).
