The Head of Learning & Participation will demonstrate through a high–impact delivery programme that every job in every sector requires creativity, and every individual is born with potential. Through mass participation, community engagement, and innovation in learning; we will reassert the role of creativity in everyday life.

The postholder will demonstrate a passion for this area work and the leaderships skills to collaborate with some of the UK's greatest minds to realise an innovative and forward–thinking programme. The Festival is delivered through a commissioning model, and this role will be required to work with teams across all four nations to deliver a coherent and accessible programme of activity.

Responsibilities

As a senior member of the Programming Team, devise the Festival's learning and participation offer in collaboration with the 10 teams commissioned to deliver the public programme.
Build a programme of engagement that celebrates the creativity of science, technology, art, engineering and maths; realised through a UK–wide festival.
Ensure the mass community engagement planned with each of the Festival's 10 major commissions is delivered in a meaningful and high–quality format to inspire and engage audiences.
Identify creative synergy across commissions, including opportunities for further collaboration and to ensure opportunities are distributed equitably across the UK.
Devising new and innovative methods for delivering learning and participation at scale, shaping the approach to engagement across the body of work.
Own and drive forward a national and international schools' engagement programme for the Festival.
Utilising the Festival's cross–sector STEAM collaboration to inspire creativity through public programming, professional development initiatives and targeted interventions.
Ensure the highest quality of safeguarding is delivered across the Festival delivery partnership.
Lead the integration workstream for coordinating school engagement across the 2022 Major Events Programme, delivering activity in partnership with the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, HM The Queen's Platinum Jubilee and the BBC's Centenary celebrations.
Skills & Experience Required

Essential

Fluent in spoken and written English.
Relevant professional experience in a senior position within the cultural sector, industries or STEAM sectors leading on learning and participation activity.
Experienced in accessible delivery and widening participation.
Advanced knowledge of safeguarding.
Ability to work autonomously whilst being highly–collaborative with external partners to deliver a coherent programme.
Desirable

Prior experience of youth and/or community work.
Safeguarding qualifications.
Knowledge of creative commissioning and planning processes.
Experience of working with senior stakeholders.
An interest in educational policy and policy development.
Understanding of delivering across devolved policy areas for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
We will consider a secondment from an existing cultural organisation or local authority for this job role.

Salary: Competitive
