Role overview:
The Product Development Director will be responsible for leading the combined technical team that develops the software that powers Tes' products. Working with the Heads of Development and the CTO, develop and execute a robust technical engineering vision, strategy, policies, and processes that align with the needs of Tes' product roadmaps and the wider businesses.
Key role responsibilities:
Work across product verticals with both the technical, product and business owners to ensure that new products or services are delivered to the appropriate levels of quality within the agreed timeframes
Help and lead with building technical solution architectures and visions
Organise and manage onshore and offshore Agile development teams
Champion Agile methods of working and a foster a culture of continual improvement
Collate and present product, productivity and quality feedback to the management team and other stakeholders
Encourage cross vertical knowledge sharing and the communities of practice.
Create high performing teams; resolve internal and external conflicts and establish an atmosphere of success & continual improvement
Identify the root causes of any delivery issues and work to introduce corrective actions; remove all delivery obstructions; Mercilessly blast through obstructions – with a smile
Assist or lead with gathering, clarifying and shaping product and project requirements as requiredEducation and experience requirements:
Experience
Minimum of four years' leadership experience in a Development Manager role or similar responsible for running development teams across a number multiple product verticals
Demonstrable experience of Agile working practices. Ability to promote Agile methods of thinking, working and delivery
Proven track record in the continued optimisation of the project release schedule to support the frequent delivery of high–quality releases.Skills/knowledge
Understand the value of agile artefacts and metrics and how they should be used
Any experience with Node.js or LAMP technologies would be beneficial as would exposure to Kubernetes and Atlassian tools
First class facilitation and motivational skills to enable the teams to plan, improve and successfully deliverCompetencies
First class leadership capabilities. Takes ownership and responsibility; Works well within a team
Have a passion for software development and a good understanding of iterative and incremental software development. Understand the value of delivery commitments made by a development team
Good written and verbal skills, able to translate concepts into easily understood diagrams and visuals for both technical and non–technical people alike; must have presentation skills
Demonstrate empathy, common sense and pragmatism. Relate to both business and technology people
Flexible. Self–starter. Must be able to manage own time successfully. Ability to work well under pressureAdditional Information
