My Client, a Local Authority in Surrey, seeks an Interim Director of Environment, Housing and Regeneration for a 3 month contract, to extend.

The new Interim Director will play a critical role in leading and delivering the corporate priorities against a backdrop of additional challenges such as local population growth and the changing face of the retail centres.

The post holder will to provide management support for the following Heads of Service:– Head of Operational Services, Head of Housing and Community Services, Head of Property and Regeneration Head of Planning

Adoption and delivery of the local plan will be critical in addressing increasing pressure on development and available sites to provide housing and affordable homes as well as stimulating growth in the economy. Added to this is the real challenge of trying to balance the climate change agenda with growth. The pressure for development and the need to ensure good quality open space compete.

It is important that this post complements the skill mix of Leadership Team and facilitate future evolution to deliver the Vision and 4 Year Plan.

The role will be pivotal in helping support the Council and its partners to take a strong lead in maintaining the correct balance between protecting the environment and enabling growth in employment and housing.

The post holder will need to possess a strong operational focus to help support the delivery of key services and strategies and be equally comfortable leading corporate and partnership initiatives. A strong track record of working closely with strategic partners including local authorities, the police, and the LEP will be required.

The client is seeking a specialist with a background in managing a reduction in homelessness during this interim period as well as support for the Chief Executive while the permanent recruitment takes place.

There will also be an opportunity to influence and support with the Council's recovery plans. Strong political acumen and significant experience of working within a political environment together with their ability to influence will be paramount in working on this hugely important agenda critical to our success.
