Head of Mechanical Engineering– R&D

Excellent new opportunity! A Leading Manufacturer of cutting edge Medical device products has an exciting new opportunity for a Head of Mechanical Engineering to join the senior leadership team for their UK operation. The role will focus on the design and development activities for mechanical, hydraulic and battery powered electro–mechanical product ranges.
THE ROLE:
The role will report directly to the CTO of the business and will be pivotal in the development of their ever evolving product range. Working with internal and external collaborators, you will take the lead mechanical role for all issues regarding the specification, design, development, test, and transfer to manufacturing. You will manage and lead a team/ coordinate external partners to support the completion of the below tasks;
Write and review specifications
Design and review mechanical and electromechanical assemblies
Develop 3D models and bills–of–material
Perform FEA analyses
Supervise and evaluate prototype creation
Develop test methods for verification and validation, perform tests and document results as needed
Design and develop test fixtures
Interface with external test labs to oversee mechanical tests
The Person
To be consider for this role, you will need to fit the following criteria;
5 years+ Experience in an engineering leadership role
Must have strong exposure to Medical Device environments, or similar
hands on industry knowledge with an emphasis on motion–control and compact hydraulic systems and components
Experience of working with 3D modelling software, FEA/CFD modelling techniques and analysis tools in essential.
Experience with ISO 13485, 21 CFR 820, ISO 14971 compliance with emphasis on electromechanical design would be desirable
Educated to degree level in relevant discipline
