Kirklees College has become one of the biggest colleges in Yorkshire, offering a varied and wide range of courses and study options from entry level to higher education qualifications.
With an income of c.GBP40million we offer a broad curriculum to over 18,000 students across full–time study, apprenticeships and part–time courses. We enjoy strong support from partners in the communities we serve and know that our continued success depends on our ability to continue to provide a learning experience that is second to none. We want the College to grow and flourish, based on a reputation for excellence and inclusion, serving the needs of students and the 1000 employers it works with across West Yorkshire.
Situated in the heart of West Yorkshire our large, vibrant and diverse general further education College has seven centres located across Huddersfield and Dewsbury. Significant capital investment has seen the recent opening of a new Sixth Form Centre for 16–18 year olds in Dewsbury and we are looking forward to the imminent opening of our iconic Pioneer Higher Skills Centre in the town.
The College has been through a period of successful change and improvement over recent years. Our current Principal and Chief Executive, Marie Gilluley is retiring after leading our improvement journey. We continue to focus on the quality of teaching and learning and have made significant progress in improving the quality of outcomes, and progression of our learners over the last five years and Ofsted recognises that Kirklees College continues to be a "Good" college.
The College's finances continue to strengthen, and we have recently come out of a period of FE Commissioner intervention, having secured restructuring funds and undertaken significant action to improve the operating position. The College is now in a position to continue on the next part of our exciting journey transforming the lives within our community. Our financial outlook is much more positive, with a financial plan in place to move from "Satisfactory" financial health to "Good" financial health by 2021/22. We also have a largely new Executive and Senior Leadership team in place, together with a re–invigorated curriculum management structure.
We need a committed and driven professional to lead the College who has the experience to deliver educational excellence together with the wider strategic knowledge and commercial acumen necessary to sustain our progressive growth and stability. You may already be a Principal in another College ready for a new challenge or an aspirational Deputy, or Vice Principal of a large College who has the capacity to make this final jump to lead a College in your own right. It is not essential for you to come directly from an academic leadership pathway but you will be able to demonstrate what excellent teaching, learning and assessment looks like and have the drive, rigour and tenacity to lead us to even stronger growth and outcomes and greater financial stability.
Our College values seek to inspire and we want our next Principal to do the same. in return we offer you the chance to work with an ambitious and committed Board of Governors and lead one of the region's largest colleges.
