Jacobs are sole supplier of design services on 2 of the 6 EA NGSA lots and sub–consultant on a further 2 lots, delivering a wide range of FRM and environmental services to the biggest water / environment client in the UK.

Within our WCM (Scotland) team we have a vacancy for a Principal/Associate Director level Engineers working within a matrix engineering environment reporting to a Divisional Director and to project specific Project Manager(s) to undertake work on the above EA Framework. In addition, we are designer on a number of key FRM projects throughout Scotland, working for a number of local authority Clients and our team provides river engineering support to large Highways and Rail Schemes (for example A96, A9, BEAR, HRE, HS2, & EWWA).

We are looking to engage the right calibre of experienced Engineer to be part of a multi–disciplinary team and help drive interesting and challenging projects to completion. You would be based in either our Edinburgh or Glasgow design office.

Primary Job Responsibilities

As a senior member of our engineering team you will be able to demonstrate a broad range of civil and environmental engineering skill and experience. You will have an applied knowledge of river engineering, flood risk management and design of hydraulic structures. It will also be beneficial if you have experience of inspecting road and rail assets where they interface with the water environment, and also supervision of construction activities.

You will have a sound understanding of current legislation relating to flood risk management, design standards and awareness of health and safety matters. You will be an effective communicator with a proven track record of delivering projects. Responsibilities likely to include:

Mentoring & developing graduates, Engineers & Senior Engineers within the Water Catchment Management team (likely 4–8 direct reports dependent upon location)

Creation of work scope briefs for local & Global Integrated Delivery engineering teams

Undertaking checking of design deliverables/outputs

Setting & Maintaining standards for technical quality ensuring designs meet Client/Industry specifications

Assisting or leading multi–disciplinary project teams to complete scopes of work within agreed time frames

Working with project managers and other design team members in an integrated approach

Working to meet Health and Safety and overall project quality objectives

Ensuring project financial performance within technical discipline budget on projects

Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with other Jacobs discipline leads on projects

Qualifications:

Chartered Engineer (ideally ICE/CIWEM)

Extensive experience of delivering river engineering and flood risk management projects.

Experience of designing hydraulic structures within the river environment.

Experience in civil engineering design, documentation and procurement processes.

Understanding of responsibilities under CDM.

Experience of working with British Standards, Eurocodes and working knowledge of relevant design guides, such as those published by CIRIA.

Excellent communication skills, including written work.

Experience and proven capability of technically leading civil engineering design teams.

Experience of working in multi–disciplinary project teams.

Experience of working with and managing Clients and other project stakeholders & statutory bodies

Experience of checking and reviewing the work of others.
