A leading FMCG Food Manufacturer with growth and significant investment is currently seeking a Head of Engineering to join the team. Reporting to the site Director this will be leading a large plant / team in a fast paced, high volume manufacturing environment and be involved in GBP Multi Million projects. This role will require someone with both strategic and operational leadership experience in a comparable environment, used to leading a team of at least 25 – 30 engineers.

You will be able to provide a proven track record in impacting on CI savings and be used to managing at least a GBP1 million plus budget and with a CAPEX understanding of process GBP2.5 million upwards.

Head of Engineering responsibilities include:

Develop, implement and maintain an engineering strategy that is effective, efficient, to budget, well–managed, flexible and able to adapt to changing production circumstances
Ensuring standards and procedures are in place and regularly updated to govern all site engineering activities including aspects of new asset realisation, safe working practises, management of contractors and assessment of competencies within the teams.
Recruit, manage and motivate staff via coaching, regular appraisal, mentoring, training, leadership–by–example and setting and monitoring team targets
Ensure continued improvement in engineering skills through a structured development and training programme, matching skill levels to the requirement of the site operation
Create, implement and manage both maintenance, staffing and capital expenditure budgets to achieve factory and business targets including supplier optimisation and minimal inventories
Management of the asset register and asset disposal
Manage site utilities suppliers to ensure that the factory is provided with adequate, timely resources for emergency, accident, disaster or outage situation (Crisis Management)
Undertake a planned maintenance programme with consideration to optimising production
Support the integration of the engineering function into the manufacturing with a one–team mind–set
Ensure systems for stores to minimise inventory levels and working capital
With the site management team, ensure that the productive capability of the plant is optimised and improved for the needs of the business, including the provision and use of utilities (gas, water, electricity, compressed air) while complying with environment legislation

You will ideally be HND/Degree or equivalent, member of recognized professional body – IET/Mech E, ICT/Institute of Mechanical Engineering and have operated in a Head of Engineering / Senior Engineering Manager leadership position. You will have former experience leading a team of at least 25 engineers and ideally be NEBOSH certified. You will have former experience of creating a Lean enterprise culture and possess Project management expertise of large–scale engineering and infrastructure projects at least a GBP1 million plus budget and with a CAPEX understanding of process GBP2.5 million upwards.
