The Client
This fascinating SME energy sector organisation has been set up to help implement and oversee critical new governance arrangements in the industry. It is a not–for–profit organisation, totally funded by parties to the code under their respective licence to operate conditions. The organisation is here to promote innovation, competition and positive customer outcomes and their intention is to:
* Exhibit a best–in–class energy sector governance model – one that is flexible, dynamic and innovative
* Put energy sector consumer outcomes at the heart of everything it does – help new entrants with clear and thorough support
* Provide market participants with an accessible set of rules that are easy to understand and comply with, allowing them to go about their business informed, compliant and confident
* Ensure consumers can switch energy providers efficiently with positive experiences and outcomes
The organisation's Board is made up of an Independent Chair and a small number of Directors chosen to represent different parts of the Energy industry. They also sit on the Boards and Executive Committees of other Codes.
The Requirement
Reporting to the Board the organisation wishes to appoint a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to develop and manage a small team of expert practitioners in this code governance area. It is hoped the CEO will be in post by April 1st 2021. Core responsibilities will entail:
* Running this code governance administration organisation effectively
* Overseeing a small team of experts and the work of a wide range of key contractors
* Ensure the organisation is serving its stakeholders well
* Confirm budgets each year and work to these figures consistently
* Develop the strategic direction of the organisation and oversee this development
* Report into the Board with programmes/project updates on a regular basis
Expertise & Traits Needed
This is an exciting and challenging role requiring candidates with a special set of experiences and qualities:
* Energy Sector CEO / MD SME level experience of running successful organisations would be advantageous
* Alternatively, candidates could have leadership experience in running sizeable divisional operations with notable budgets of large well–known energy sector businesses
* Knowledge and awareness of energy sector governance, policy and regulations would be excellent
* Energetic, passionate and someone committed to the organisation for a period of three to five years in the first instance
* Strategic operational development and implementation experience is important
* Strong team management and organisational skills
* Strong financial management experience and a proven ability to develop and meet budgets
* Excellent stakeholder management skills and proven abilities
* Able to build relationships, and when necessary negotiate with the service providers
* Comfortable working with the Board on key issues
* Seen as a highly credible individual
* Excellent communication skills
