I am exclusively instructed by my client who seeks an IP and commercial counsel for this key strategic role, proactively advising on risk awareness and risk management within the business.

The organisation is looking for an experienced and commercially focused lawyer to report to the GC, advising the business on a variety of legal topics including IP, commercial, competition, data protection and e-commerce. In addition, you will advise the business on the scope and strategy of its third-party relationships, including dealing with complex matters with multiple stakeholders in different jurisdictions. You will effectively manage risk and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues and the potential impact of such risk factors on business decisions and operations. You will regularly be involved in drafting, advising and negotiating a broad range of relevant contracts, always advising within the context of the business.

Additional responsibilities will include liaising with external legal counsel (both in the UK and internationally), improving the process and procedure of generating and managing legal contracts, and training the business on key areas of law (e. contract law and intellectual property). The appointed lawyer will work closely with the Senior Management Team and BD team (amongst others) to understand the business and potential risks.

To be of interest for this role you will have a minimum of 4 years PQE (to more senior), have a commercial contracts background with some exposure to IP, and a strong track record in giving commercial legal advice. Lawyers from a private practice background will be of equal interest as those already in-house. You should be a strong communicator, very commercially aware and solutions focused. You should also possess strong analytical and negotiating skills.

This is a fantastic opportunity, for someone keen to perform a pivotal role within an organisation and make a real difference. On offer is a generous remuneration package offering a wide range of benefits. You must be Yorkshire based (or planning to relocate). Home working is likely during Covid. Only lawyers with UK experience will be considered.

To learn more about this opportunity please send your CV to the retained consultant, Adele Callaghan (specifying full details of your current remuneration package) or email me for a return call to discuss the role. This position is being handled exclusively by Hays Legal and any direct or third-party applications will be forwarded to Hays Legal for consideration.
