A VC backed, start-up telecommunications business is recruiting a Financial Controller. The role provides an excellent opportunity to create a finance department from scratch and support the growth of an incredibly exciting new business. Reporting directly to the CFO and founders, you will play a key role in driving business performance through creating and implementing high quality financial reporting and management accounting.
The Financial Controller will design and lead all the financial procedures in the company and ensure robust financial controls. You will ensure successful month end, statutory accounting and year end procedures are in place. You will act as the point of contact for the auditors and other third parties. You will also implement and develop the financial planning budgeting and forecasting processes. You will contribute to operational decisions ensuring that financial risks have been raised and understood.
Your key responsibilities will include building and developing a finance function and providing consistent first-class financial support. This will involve end to end delivery and ownership of accurate, timely, relevant reporting and accounting information; producing high quality budgeting, forecasting, investor reporting and cash flow forecasting; delivery of month end and the monthly reporting pack; and creating a robust and future proof financial control environment and adapting and improving controls as the business grows.
You will take responsibility for the implementation of appropriate financial systems and ensure integrity of figures and continuous improvement e.g. AP / AR processes, integrated billing, and accounting systems. Due to the nature of this role you will be involved in various ad hoc projects and analysis e.g. business cases, evaluate investment decisions and project accounting.
The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant (ACA or equivalent) who is up to date technically. You will demonstrate the ability to build credible relationships with founders, colleagues and third parties. You will have previous experience of setting up financial controls and processes and understand the finance and accounting needs of a fast growth start up business. Naturally, you will possess excellent analytical and data handling skills.
