Executive Director Policy, Information and Communications
Salary: circa. GBP150,000
Stratford, London
Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is the world's leading independent charity dedicated to cancer research. We carry out scientific research to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer and we are at the heart of the progress that has already seen survival in the UK double in the last 40 years. Our ambition is to accelerate progress so that by 2034, 3 in 4 people will survive their cancer for at least 10 years and our pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has already helped save millions of lives.
However, we have not been immune to the impact of the recent Covid–19 crisis, with both our research programmes and income streams disrupted at the same time that demand for our services, advice and information continues to rise. Now, more than ever, we need to work rapidly to influence the public, patients, health professionals and policy makers to accelerate the policies, interventions and the research eco system that will beat cancer.
As our new Executive Director Policy, Information and Communications you will play a critical role in ensuring this happens. As a member of the Executive team you will be instrumental in shaping and delivering the overall CRUK transformation agenda through which we seek to grow our impact. Leading a significant and broad team you will be responsible for all aspects of policy, information and communications internally and externally and ensure that the findings of cancer research are maximised; leveraging CRUK's expertise and influence to help raise our national average survival rate from its current lagging position to that of one of the best countries in the world.
This is a role that offers enormous scope to deliver impact and change for people with cancer. It requires a strategic, ambitious and influential leader who can set out a bold vision and harness the talent and passion of a significant, multi–disciplined team going through substantial change. You will be an outstanding communicator and relationship builder with experience of policy, evidence and information in a healthcare environment. You may currently be operating in the charity, public or commercial sector but, whatever your background, you will be a collaborative and empowering leader with a strong track record of strategy development and influencing wider system change.
