Job Description
Join our national planning team as a Technical Director and you'll have the opportunity to work on some of the UK's largest and complex infrastructure and developments.
Our Planning team is involved in some of the UK's most complex and stimulating projects that are diverse and technically demanding including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, energy and infrastructure developments, residential and commercial schemes, socio economic and community planning as well as research into the planning process. Our clients include Highways England, HS2, National Grid, Network Rail, TfL, Homes England, Environment Agency, Welsh Government, and the Canal & River Trust together with a range of private developers, social landlords and local authorities.
Reporting to the UK Senior Technical Director, you will be accountable for the planning advice to clients with the Environmental Planning team at Arcadis UK. As a Technical Director you will lead on the planning and environmental aspects of major new settlements or infrastructure schemes. You will also provide planning advice to major project teams and lead the planning consent process to achieve consents through effective management of stakeholders and the consent process.
As part of the role, there will be the opportunity to take on responsibility for leading bids and building relationships within the Arcadis business as well as with existing and new clients. You will work closely with our existing lead planners to develop opportunities as well as work alongside colleagues of other disciplines and sectors of the business to enhance our planning capability and reputation in the marketplace.
Your Day–to–Day:
* Build relationships with clients to identify and realise business opportunities
* Lead the development of specialist elements of complex bids to support the production of high–quality winning bids
* Lead the delivery of complex planning projects ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management and good communication and collaboration between Arcadis colleagues
* Lead on the design of innovative specialist solutions for clients that resolve complex problems
* Coach and mentor specialist professionals to support the development of Arcadis talent
* Keep up to date with developments in the industry sector and with technical and legislative developments and seek out opportunities to develop a strong professional profile at a national level
* You may be leading the consent process on major infrastructure projects through early options and feasibility stages and the preparation and submission of planning applications and planning documents as part of Development Consent Orders and consents under the Town and Country Planning Act.
* If you have a background in delivering new settlements, you may be experienced in developing masterplans and outline planning consents, bringing an understanding across technical outputs.
Requirements
* Extensive experience working on multi–disciplinary planning projects and excellent technical planning understanding
* Membership of the RTPI
* Bid writing experience is a strong advantage
* Experience in meeting sustainability and climate challenges would be advantageous to the role as well as strong knowledge of the EIA and Sustainability Appraisal process.
* Experience of coordinating major new and sustainable settlements such as garden villages and towns is advantageous.
* Experience of DCO applications and/ or consents through Hybrid bills is desirable.
