Making Tax Digital (MTD):

The Making Tax Digital (MTD) programme is at the heart of HMRC's transformation agenda and is one of our highest priorities. MTD is leading the way in the delivery of modern services for customers which will change how millions of businesses and landlords interact with the tax system.

Job description

You will be joining a lively team led by a Senior Finance Business Partner and a Finance Business Partner in a dynamic and exciting environment with a remit to provide a professional finance service to support the running of the programme.

Your role is to support the MTD Finance Business Partner in providing robust financial forecasts to the MTD Director. This will be achieved by taking a business partnering approach with the portfolio project leads, project managers and finance leads from the projects within MTD spanning across all HMRC. Also engaging with the wider portfolio contacts in Transformation Portfolio Management and Corporate Finance. Provide professional financial advice on both governance and control for specific aspects of financial management and supporting processes. Seeking continuous improvement to help MTD perform at its best.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the role include:

Produce accurate, relevant and timely forecasts and management reporting including analysis for Programme and Project boards ensuring this accurately reflects delivery plans.

Working with projects and MTD leads, undertaking a continuous review of the funding requirements.

As a Business Partner provide financial advice and assurance to all MTD customers building up knowledge and awareness across the portfolio including preparing digital plans.

Maintenance and control of ERP data supporting the annual budgeting processes by accurately profiling and uploading budget and forecast information

Be responsive to IT charging regimes as HMRC operates a multi supplier environment and maintain tried recording processes to accommodate these.

Responsibility for completion of accruals, asset under construction, and commitment returns.

Monitoring and assurance of MTD related HMRC Business Group costs.

Assist the programme to optimise the available funding and deliver value for money

Essential Criteria:

A sound proven understanding of financial management and risk is needed, which should include performing monthly forecasting and reporting tasks.

Be comfortable working with multiple partners with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrable evidence of working collaboratively and building positive relationships across business groups within a complex and politically critical environment.

Evidence of the ability to quickly grasp issues around a range of complex and exciting products and services and to work effectively and influence around this with key partners.

Experience of programme accounting and an interest in studying for a financial qualification.
