As one of the largest pension pools in the UK, Border to Coast is responsible for the investment of assets of eleven Local Government Pension Funds which collectively have over GBP46bn of assets. As a customer-owned, customer-focused organisation, our long-term vision is to make a positive difference to investment outcomes for our Partner Funds. Pooling gives us a stronger voice and working in partnership with our Partner Funds and across the asset owner and asset management industry, we aim to deliver cost effective, innovative and responsible investment thereby enabling sustainable, risk-adjusted performance over the long-term. As part of this we seek to improve value for money through scale, increased access to investment opportunities and strengthened governance.

Border to Coast is an FCA regulated investment company ("Border to Coast Pensions Partnership Ltd") which manages the Partner assets through both internal and external management within several investment vehicles.

We are looking for an interim Chief Risk Officer to report directly to the CEO and indirectly to the Risk Committee Chair. The role has responsibility for ensuring that robust risk management and internal controls are delivered through our risk management framework. In addition, you will play an active part of the Executive team embedding Border to Coast's collaborative culture across the company and working directly with the CEO to ensure business targets and objectives are stretching and within risk appetite.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a balance of skills and track record, including:

  • Risk function leadership expertise with the ability to shape and deliver a robust risk management agenda.
  • Thorough knowledge of direct Asset/Investment Management environments across a range of asset classes
  • First-rate people leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage, collaborate, coach and inspire.

Border to Coast offers a highly collaborative and customer-centric environment, with a clear culture of responsible investment and stewardship throughout the organisation within a risk-controlled environment.
