About the role:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and bright individual to join the Carbon Trust, and manage cutting-edge research and development activities as well as advisory work in Offshore Wind. If you have detailed offshore wind knowledge, an interest in helping develop the latest innovations in offshore wind technology, and addressing key challenges the offshore wind industry is facing, then we would like to hear from you.
The Carbon Trust works with government and large corporate clients in the UK and internationally to help bring offshore wind technologies to market quicker, cheaper and at a greater scale. We manage renowned and impactful research and development programmes that look to drive down cost of low carbon technologies, such as the Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) or the Floating Wind JIP, flagship collaborative joint industry RD&D initiatives between the Carbon Trust and international offshore wind farm developers. You will be part of the Policy and Innovation department, which works in project teams to deliver high quality, high impact advice to clients. The offshore wind team is a friendly and dedicated team within a relatively small company, based primarily in London and Edinburgh but delivering work across the globe. The Offshore Wind Team has had a significant impact on the acceleration of the UK and international offshore wind markets, driven by our enthusiastic and knowledgeable team of experts. We learn from and support our work within the team, and also in the wider Carbon Trust, and work closely with the Energy Systems Team and the Energy Policy Team among others.
Main duties and responsibilities:
The role will be expected to take on key responsibilities for the management and delivery of one of our Joint Industry Research Programmes (JIPs), such as our Floating Wind JIP, leading and coordinating the programme from a technical and project management perspective. It is also expected that the successful candidate will manage the delivery of consultancy projects as well as support strategic planning and business development for the Offshore Wind sector.
The successful candidate is expected to also work across the wider Carbon Trust to provide innovative advice to governments and businesses around the world to support the global transition to a low carbon economy.
Key tasks for this role include:
• Programme coordination and management
o Coordination of activities between Joint Industry Programmes (Floating Wind JIP, Offshore Wind Accelerator JIP, ORJIP Offshore Wind, The Integrator JIP)
o Extraction of key management information to support the Offshore Wind Team in overall strategic planning and budgeting for Carbon Trust research activities over a multi-year time horizon
o Business development within the remit of the Joint Industry Programme, with the aim to grow the portfolio of research activities and the number of partners we are working with
o Responsible for the financial performance and management of JIP related activities, utilising our customer relationship management and financial tracking tools
o Responsible for the management of the Quality Assurance process across the programme activities in accordance with Carbon Trust guidelines
o Oversight of procurement activities, invitations to tender, tender evaluations and contract negotiations with selected bidders; and
o Preparing material for regular meetings of management team, monthly financial / project meetings and other meetings as required
• Management of Joint Industry Programme
o Manage the overall delivery of one of our Joint Industry programmes. The JIP, such as our Floating Wind Joint Industry Programme consists of a range of research projects that need to be managed to ensure successful delivery
o Ensure effective interaction within and between technical research areas in the programme;
o Support the identification and prioritisation of research challenges
o Support technical delivery groups to identify research challenges and scope projects to address these;
o Manage the Steering Committee of the JIP
o Supporting the management and execution of research projects - including stakeholder management, milestone tracking, risk management and quality assurance; and
o Develop strong relationships with universities and other research organisations to support collaboration
o Responsible for financial management of one of Carbon Trust's research programme
o Report financial performance to internal and external stakeholders
• Stakeholder management
o Work closely with stakeholders from the wider wind industry, liaising with innovators to understand challenges and how we can support innovations to market
o Coordinate press and marketing releases relating to projects, working closely with Carbon Trust's and its partner's marketing teams to maximise press coverage of key updates
o Managing and maintaining all external facing information sharing including websites, press releases, and internal sites
o Representing the Carbon Trust at meetings with its industry partners
o Present Carbon Trust work at key industry conferences and workshops
• Offshore wind advisory
o Deliver advisory work within the offshore wind team, which could include projects from Asia to Latin America and in the U.S., and topics from supply chain development to grid integration
Key skills we are looking for:

Qualifications and experience:
• Experience in the offshore wind industry is strongly preferred.
• Degree educated (or equivalent), preferably in engineering or science subject, or in another subject backed up with relevant experience
Salary & Benefits:
We offer a competitive salary and a performance based bonus. Our hours are 37.5 per week with 28 days paid holiday plus bank holidays and a generous pension scheme.
