This immensely challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a proven track record of significant achievement and enhancement to the sales, business development and pre–construction function of a steel, piling or specialist foundations engineering business.

Due to continued and sustained growth, and the realisation of an ambitious expansion strategy our client is now looking to appoint a Technical Sales Director, which should be viewed as a rare opportunity to take up an executive level position with one of the sectors most successful growing companies.
The Role
The Director will lead the sales process on behalf of the group as a whole for the enhancement of existing clients, the development of new opportunities and leading specific bids for the company, which will include framework agreements and standalone tenders. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the general sales, business development and pre–contract processes and capabilities, combined with an in depth understanding of the steel or piling industry technical requirements and client standards and specifications, and will be able to converse with clients and internal pre–construction teams (sales, business development, design and estimating) to deliver bid winning proposals and ultimately contribute to profitable turnover growth. You will also ensure that robust selectivity criteria are applied to new opportunities, providing appropriate challenge where necessary so that each project has sufficient and clearly allocated resources as required. You will additionally take accountability for the end–to–end ownership of the group's business opportunities from pipeline to handover.
Key Essentials
* You will be responsible for ongoing development and ensuring success with new and existing clients, helping to secure work and tender opportunities through collaborative engagement with both internal and external stakeholders
* You will have a proven track record of strategic influence and successfully applying strategy from the capacity of sales, business development and pre–construction, and all within the either the steel, piling and foundations sectors
* You will possess demonstrable achievement in the successful procurement, development and award of multi–faceted business opportunities, with the ability to nurture profitable relationships with a wide cross section of clients, whilst also providing budgetary and technical advice wherever possible
* You should be able to make an immediate impact upon the business with an established understanding of all cycles of the technical sales, business development and bidding process, as you will be required to manage your own workload effectively, whilst regularly reporting to the main board and CEO on progress with any potential work opportunities
* You should be outgoing with excellent negotiation, communication and presentation skills, and have the ability to form long term relationships with clients and stakeholders of all levels
* You will provide opportunity to increase the number of enquiries, leading to an increase in successful contract awards to ultimately meet or better the overall business turnover, profitability and growth targets
* You will assist in the submission of all bids, tenders and of pre–qualification documents by adding valued input to pre–contract terms and conditions negotiations
* You will lead the expansion of the business and the company's service offering to a broader client base, and proactively engage with selected parts of client organisations to ensure that understanding of their current and future needs is as complete as possible
* You will create and maintain individual client development plans for nominated accounts and sales pipelines aligned to the business strategy, whilst closely working with the Engineering and Operations Teams to identify opportunities to support clients and develop project winning themes
* You will liaise with clients to identify opportunities for technical support to their business, and be fully conversant with design capabilities, technical innovations, and operational processes and procedures within the sector in order to better understand client requirements and opportunities, and thus position the company to offer bespoke solutions which will yield the required returns accordingly
* You will lead the bidding process and be an integral part of the wider sales, business development and pre–construction teams to provide support to the broader process of work winning strategy
* Adherence to the company requirements including pipeline reporting, sales opportunity reviews, preparation of tender board papers and presentation of opportunities to management will be required
* You will be writing key elements of bid responses, whilst reviewing the work of those contributing, and providing advice on content and structure of all documents accordingly
* You will provide commercial input to the bid process to ensure the company offering is in line with the market standing and offers the client compelling value
Requirements
* You will possess a comprehensive understanding of the steel, tubular steel, piling or foundations sector as a whole, and have a proven success of winning contracts and developing opportunities
* You will possess extensive senior level sales and pre–construction expertise in a similar role within these market sectors
* A detailed knowledge of these markets and the clients within, gained either through direct experience of delivery or direct experience of pre–construction activity in this field
* Demonstrable technical capability to add value to the sales, marketing and business development process
* Experience of working collaboratively within a high pressure team environment
* Demonstrable understanding of client relationship management processes, tools and techniques
* Commercial acumen in business proposals
* Leadership capability with the ability to motivate and others and drive success within a management organisational structure
* Ability to clearly and concisely communicate to an advanced level
