Scotland/Home Working with flexibility
About the role
Millions of people are locked in poverty in the UK, including one million people of all ages in Scotland and one in four children. We don't believe that's right. That's why we've made it our mission to solve it. JRF's new strategy is to work alongside others to build public and political will for change and create demand for effective solutions.
This role will lead the development of our outcomes across our work in Scotland, tailored to the distinct opportunities of devolution and ensuring that people with lived experience of poverty are at the heart of our work.
This is an interim role for 9 months initially, spanning the pre– and post–election phases in Scotland, and is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in a short space of time.
You will be leading our Scotland team and joining a leadership team that is committed to transforming JRF into a social change leader for the 21st century, embracing matrix working, technology, innovation, digital and design thinking to modernise what we do and how we do it.
About you
We are looking for an effective and motivating leader who is highly collaborative, with significant experience in public policy, senior stakeholder engagement and managing strategic programmes.
You'll be used to driving change through engagement and influencing.
You will be experienced in leading organisational change and nurturing a culture of continuous improvement in those that you lead.
You will be used to overseeing a team and projects in a fast paced and changing environment, within the public arena.
About us
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation is a social change organisation with a 100–year history. We are built on trust, show we care, and exist to make a difference.
We work with others to put forward sector–leading research, evidence, solutions and stories to the UK's influencers and decision–makers.
We believe that a prosperous poverty–free UK is within reach – we just need more people to believe it too.
To make our vision a reality we need talent, ideas, skills and passion, plus we need to change some of what we do and how we do it. We are part way through a significant period of change – during which we are becoming an outcomes–focused organisation that embraces new ways of working and modern practices.
If you share our passion, then we need to hear from you.
Closing date for applications 30 September 2020
Interviews will be held week commencing 12 October 2020
During the COVID–19 restrictions, our interviews will be by telephone and/or video call. The successful applicant will be fully supported to work from home for an initial period where restrictions on non–essential travel are in place.
In support of our approach to flexible working we are happy to receive applications from those seeking full time employment, as well as those who may want to share the role on a part time basis. Secondment applications are welcome. While we are not fixed in terms of work location, there would be a requirement to be present in Glasgow when the return to office working can be done safely.
When making your application, please state whether you want to be considered for either full or part time work and, if part time, the number of hours per week you would be looking for, and please be clear about your location of work.
Our commitment to diversity
We are committed to creating opportunities for under–represented groups. BAME groups and those with a disability are under–represented in the organisation and are positively encouraged to apply. We shall apply Section 159 of the Equalities Act 2010 in the recruitment process.
At JRF/JRHT we believe in being inclusive and giving everyone an equal chance to succeed. Applications are welcome from all regardless of age, disability, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, religion or belief, race, sex, sexual orientation, trans status or social economic background. We positively encourage applications from those with experience of living in poverty.
