An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Director (*Part Time, 3 days p/w) to join a well established international market leader in the manufacture and distributor of high tech equipment. Based in Medway, Kent, this highly respected business, require a commercially focussed senior finance professional to provide finance, operational and commercial support across the organisation during this crucial period of organic and acquisitional growth.

Reporting to, and working in conjunction with, the founder/Managing Director who is passionate about the business, and the wider Senior Management Team, the Finance Director will be instrumental in streamlining and improving processes in finance and across the organisation with a focus on total business development and growth. Ensuring financial controls and the commercial framework are highly robust and designing and driving sustainable, profitable growth while guiding and controlling the strategic direction of the business and finding solutions for the organisations continuing financial success.

Key duties will encompass:
  • Building strong business partnering relationships with MD and Key Stakeholders, both internally and externally
  • Measure the effectiveness and efficiency of operational processes and design and implement strategies to improve processes
  • Work with accountants on preparation of the statutory accounts and general tax matters as required.
  • Manage relationship with bank and invoice discounters on general management of the facilities and preparation of forecasts as required. Provision of abbreviated management accounts to bank on a timely basis.
  • Evaluate procedures in all parts of business and assist managers in addressing these issues.
  • Attend and present at board and senior management meetings
  • Assist with legal and contractual issues to ensure they cover the interest of the business
  • Evaluate proposed projects and acquisitions to ensure that they are beneficial to the company.
  • Undertake risk management activities to protect and progress the company's financial wellbeing.
  • Manage all aspects of the accounts function and review accounting procedures and make changes to improve efficiency and control costs.
  • Preparation and monitoring of annual budget together with the management team.
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts and analysis of results for board, together with the development of key performance indicators. Monitoring of results against budget.
  • Preparation of cashflow forecasts and management of cashflow.
  • Analysis costings and profitability of various areas of the business.
  • Liaise with other members of staff over the management and procedures on the MRP software system with regard to the accounting functions generated by the system. Review if this needs changing.
  • Preparation of monthly payroll and ensure compliance with all matters relating to payroll including pensions.
  • Preparation of VAT returns, Intrastat Returns , P11Ds - Annual Return of Expenses and Benefits and liaise with HMRC.
  • Preparation of financial information for grant applications and others as required.
  • Ensuring ongoing training of accounts staff.


About you:


  • A qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) ideally with a least 10 year post qualified experience with the ability to command quickly gain respect from all
  • Previous experience as a standalone FD is essential and ideally with some exposure in the manufacturing sector with an international bias. Will also have had plenty of hands on accounting experience at all levels.
  • Build strong and effective governance processes / framework around projects and commercial activities
  • Commercial outlook with an ability to 'see the bigger picture' and understand the importance of diligent cash flow management
  • A goal orientated, resilient finance professional with a proactive 'can do' attitude
  • Plenty of drive, hunger and enthusiasm with a quick grasp of the commercial realities of the business and able to express it clearly and succinctly in financial terms.
  • Works well under pressure in fast paced environment and can deal with rapidly changing situations
  • Strong technical, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong staff management and IT Systems skills
  • Outgoing, honest and approachable personality who is not afraid to be 'hands-on' when need be
  • Prepared to travel when required

* This role is initially a Part Time position, up to 3 days per week as a sole role and will be on an employed basis directly with the client. As the company grows, there is the potential for this role to progress to Full Time
