Investigo are delighted to be partnering with the Finance team at Drax, the FTSE Energy Company. Their retail division, Drax Customers, is going through an exciting period of change and transformation. We are working with Drax Customers to create a high-performing finance team based in their modern Northampton office.

This role will be responsible for the reporting and understanding of gross margin (revenue and direct costs) and operating expenses of the electricity, gas and renewable energy retail business.

You will also be responsible for preparation of timely and accurate month end reporting and supporting the annual budget and re-forecasting cycle. Partnering with senior finance and non-finance stakeholders to assist the analysis, interpretation and forecasting of financial results.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Key member of the Customers Finance Team providing timely and accurate monthly management accounting for all aspects of gross margin and operating costs for the Customers Business across gas, electricity and renewable sources.
  • Interface with the business leaders and their teams providing finance input where needed to support the business. Activities include: support on customer bids, trend analysis, bench-marking and contract negotiations.
  • Interpret and challenge the financial results of the business to build insight and understanding which can be used by the management team to explore opportunities and expose areas of under-performance.
  • Work with the Accounting and FPA teams to ensure delivery of insightful and timely information and commentary which ensures that performance is accurately measured, early indications of variations from plan is given and that appropriate management action is identified.
  • Develop successful working relationships which promote trust and confidence in the ability of the Finance department to significantly influence business performance.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the finance team to ensure consistency of process and approach on all financial matters.
  • Provide day to day management of an analyst
  • Support the audit cycle for the finance team including external audit, internal audit reviews and the year-end audit cycle.
  • Support the planning and re-forecasting cycle as part of the finance team.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:
  • Qualified Accountant - CIMA/ACCA/ACA
  • Experience in a commercial role in a PLC environment. Previous experience in energy sector an advantage.
  • Commercial awareness - understands and applies financial and commercial principles. Views issues in terms of costs, profits, markets and added value.
  • Problem solving and analysis - analyses issues and breaks them down into their component parts. Makes, systematic and rational judgements based on relevant information.
  • Technical accounting - technically up to date with an appreciation of the impact of changes in accounting standards to both management and PLC accounts.
  • Creativity and innovation - created new and imaginative approached to work-related issues. Identifies fresh approaches and shows a willingness to question traditional assumptions.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills. Able to build close working relationships quickly.
  • Self-starter with high levels of motivation and ambition
