Heyland Finance are delighted to be assisting our exclusive client, an SME Construction business based in the Warrington area as they look to appoint an experienced Financial Controller amidst a significant period of business change.

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will take the financial lead on number of key projects whilst retaining full responsibility for the day to day running of the finance function.

As Financial Controller your main responsibilities will include;
* Manage and develop the small finance team (8-10 staff) ensuring that the members of the team work together to meet the reporting deadlines set and that the staff members are developed and encouraged to meet their potential.
* Effectively manage all aspects of the accounting operations within the division - management accounting, credit control, purchase ledger and cash & expenses.
* Continually review, develop and document business processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls and to increase the efficiency of those processes.
* Oversee the production of financial outputs in line with the Group accounting policies and timetables - weekly flash reporting, monthly management accounts and board packs, quarterly forecasts and annual budgets.
* Plan and organise stocktakes within the business and oversee the quarterly stock revaluation and obsolescence provision calculations. Work with the Divisional Finance Director and Purchasing Manager to ensure that obsolete stock is identified early and disposed of as profitably as possible.
* Maintain control of all balance sheet accounts ensuring that these are reconciled monthly and any necessary corrective action taken as required.
* Oversee the production of the financial year end Group reporting pack and manage the interaction with the external auditors during the year end statutory audit ensuring that all the additional information they require is made available to them.
* Be cost-conscious and work to ensure that the costs of the business are well understood and appropriately budgeted for and that there is budgetary cost discipline across the division.
* Ensure compliance with Group policy and internal delegated authorities.
* Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements - VAT returns, Intrastat, and all relevant financial legislation.

Person Specification:

* Experience of business change would be an advantage - ability to maintain financial control as the business transitions to its new location.
* Exposure to the construction industry would be an advantage with particular emphasis on accounting for construction contracts and the implications of IFRS15.
* Experience of IT systems implementations / upgrades would be an advantage, particularly Microsoft Navision or Dynamics AX.
* Strong organisational and management skills - ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
* Ability to set direction and standards and to drive continuous improvement but to do this in a collaborative way in a team environment.
* Ability to see the big picture while focussing on the process and procedures necessary to produce the required outputs.
* Attention to detail, high professional standards and personal integrity.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player - ability to engender team spirit and effectively motivate staff.
* Good communication skills - ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the business.
* Excellent IT skills and experience of using spreadsheets and other tools effectively in order to ensure accuracy of output and efficiency of process.
* Experience of forecasting and budgeting.

The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified CIMA, ACCA, ACA Financial Controller with a proven track record in developing existing processes and procedures, ideally within an SME Manufacturing/Construction environment.
