The Role

Working closely with the senior management team and as a critical part of the overall Leadership Team, this role is to lead and manage four personal injury motor litigation teams conducting fast track work.

The role involves being a technical point of referral for complex matters, managing the financial performance of the teams that report to the role, monitoring service standards, and ensuring adherence to professional compliance obligations and the firm's client care policies.

Some of the main responsibilities;
  • Have line management responsibility for the performance and management of three Senior Associate motor claim team managers and their teams, circa 40 individuals in total;
  • Be accountable and responsible for the financial performance of the motor teams, with responsibility for the P&L, recruitment costs and driving improvements/inefficiencies;
  • Supervise the case handling of all motor Senior Associates and have strong legal technical skills to enable more complex referrals from the team, to allow only minimal input from Counsel;
  • Run a small caseload of more complex multi-track matters and be able to evidence a strong track record of high value claims handling;
  • Deal with complaints at first tier and act as referral point for resolving compliance queries and Code of Conduct issues. This will include the management of professional negligence claims;
  • Build strong relationships with business partners and attend quarterly review meetings with key stakeholders, together with coordinating and delivering on business partner audit requirements; and
  • Assist and consult in respect of change management to enable fixed fee motor work to achieve high and continuously improving levels of efficiency, productivity and profitability.
About You

In addition to being an experienced and technically strong leader of people, we are looking for a candidate who is a qualified solicitor (or who have equivalent qualifying experience) with at least 10 PQE and who can demonstrate:
  • Strong technical experience in the field of fast track motor claims with the ability to assess breach, causation and quantum to a high level;
  • Strong technical experience of the Motor Claims Portal, MIB, damage only claims (including subrogated claims), the CPR, pre-action protocols and the Medco Portal;
  • A proven track record of managing, training and developing people with the ability to influence at all levels;
  • A commitment to mentor, coach and improve technical ability within the department;
  • Detailed knowledge of all regulatory issues, compliance and the Code of Conduct;
  • Excellent working knowledge of case management systems/processes;
  • A strong operational background of managing teams to deliver high performance;
  • Experience and ability to analyse P&L accounts for the motor claims function and experience of making significant efficiency savings and managing cost;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel; and
  • An ability to contribute to and lead process changes (desirable).
