The Finance Business Partner:

An exciting opportunity has come up to join the Trust’s finance team as Finance Business Partner for Research and Development. The Finance Business Position is a highly prestigious role, providing financial support to the world’s leading research and development team in ophthalmology. As the principal finance contact for Research and Development. The Finance Business Partner will be responsible for providing financial management and support to the Division, including financial input to business case production, costing statements, programme budget returns and the preparation and management of research grants. The Finance Business Partner role will also include the following:
  • Leading, planning and coordinating the annual budget setting process for the Research and Development division
  • Providing specialist technical accounting and business knowledge for the Research and Development division
  • Investigating, advising and presenting on highly complex projects
  • Leading on the production of annual budgets for individual research projects and programmes of work – including Income, Pay and Non-Pay
  • Supporting the Research Department in the costing of all research including commercial and charitable research protocols
  • Developing professional relationships with academics, professors and clinicians within Moorfields and its academic partner, UCL Institute of Ophthalmology
  • Producing financial management information, divisional financial forecasting and business planning
  • Influencing strategic planning and providing challenge to the divisional management team
This Finance Business Partner role is a key position within Moorfields Eye Hospital, whereby the successful applicant would find themselves on a dynamic career trajectory within NHS financial management, in an interesting and challenging setting, surrounded by colleagues are at the top of their game.

The successful Finance Business Partner Candidate:
  • Will be a qualified CCAB accountant / or passed finalist with considerable experience in either NHS or Financial Management, or providing financial support to research and development teams in another sector e.g. Education, Charity or the Private Sector.
  • Will have the intellectual capacity and communication skills to excel in explaining highly complex financial issues clearly and concisely to non-finance managers, as well as the credibility and gravitas to provide constructive challenge to clinicians and academics at the forefront of ophthalmology research and development.
  • An understanding of funding mechanisms in NHS research would be useful, as well as previous exposure to governance and financial administration of numerous research projects.
  • Will have a proactive approach to problem solving, highly developed technical analysis skills and the ability to build excellent working relationships with colleagues at all levels as well as tenacity, resilience, diplomacy and excellent judgement.
