Senior Legal Counsel

Our client, a tier 1 global banking group, is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join Global Banking & Markets (GBM) team. This is a 12 month contract offering up to £550 per day. The role is based in London.

Responsibilities

• Working as part of the GBM advisory legal team which provides legal advice and support primarily to the relationship managers and lending businesses in Global Banking.
• This will focus on advising on more complex bilateral lending transactions and negotiations and providing input on bilateral template documentation used by Global Banking in the UK, and accompanying negotiation guidance and other matters.
• The role will have a particular current focus on distressed clients & restructuring situations where the support needed will be on the legal aspects of the relevant relationship as a whole, thus involving exposure to other product areas - particularly direct involvement with payments & cash management, trade and custody teams. This will typically also involve a global legal co-ordination role from London, dealing with Legal colleagues globally to pull together the documentation and legal understanding for the global exposures as a whole.
• The team is frequently called upon to support strategic projects, whether regulatory change driven, event driven (Brexit) or driven by internal organizational change and the role will involve full participation in those.

Skills and experience

• Qualified Lawyer
• Knowledge and experience of banking, corporate and securities law concepts and a working knowledge of the laws in the major jurisdictions
• Corporate experience and Compliance experience an advantage, but not essential
• Developing Leadership skills
• Ability to prioritise
• Communication and inter-personal skills
• Lateral thinking/problem solving
