CTO/Chief Technical Officer

Within Hiscox, our CTO is the individual who is responsible for establishing the company's technical vision and overseeing all aspects of the company's technology development.

The role is built around 5 key objectives:

• Understanding the business - close understanding of Hiscox business strategy, support and enhance this via technology
• Assessing external risks and opportunities - Research new technologies and assess potential to add business value to Hiscox
• Strategy - Define and lead Hiscox technical strategy across Applications and Infrastructure
• Design - Define and ensure compliance with approved architecture policy
• Delivery - Oversees the selection and the successful implementation of new products, tools and platforms

This position sits within a team of 6 business leaders within Hiscox overall technology discipline. Over the years we have, with the advice and drive from our CTO adapted agile, cloud, automation, RPA and AI technology to name but a few. We are now on the next step of our journey and are seeking someone to be the driving force in out next period of technical transition

The Role

We are looking for a technology driven and technology savvy individual who can bring technology and business based knowledge together - aligned to the Hiscox TOM and company goals

You will be a strong stakeholder manager, with experience supporting business units, functions and overall Group IT to ensure transparent, fair and unambiguous communication across all levels. You will be able to prioritise, set expectations and manage them accordingly

Technically you will have vision that complements the business and will be able to set the tone and direction for future proofing change within Hiscox whilst being able to highlight and balance risk versus opportunity at every step

Your core responsibility will be to develop a deep understanding of the benefits of current and emerging technologies and identify disruptive technologies possessing potential application for Hiscox to give the business an advantage and competitive edge against competitors in the market.

What you'll be doing as CTO

There are a number of strategic projects to engage you upon within the business. These range from an organisation-wide Finance Transformation Programme, implementation of a new Policy Admin system, cloud migrations and investigation into Crypto, Blockchain, Digital and AI technology amongst others.

As CTO you will have an up to date knowledge of technology, standards, trends, emerging technology and software development practices. You will take a holistic view in the research, evaluation and implementation of new solutions to the business as well as taking responsibility for the outcome and output of projects inclusive of reusable optimised technology. This will include technology forum representation, conference attendance and overall brand awareness duties regarding Hiscox technology advancement to wider audiences

As part of this role you will be working with the strategic leadership team to enable communication, mentoring and education of the IT teams and senior management and assist the Group CIO in meeting business objectives. Working closely with our business partners, "Heads of IT" and approved technology partners you will set standards and frameworks for delivery for the future as well as visible leadership to the rest of Hiscox

You will have prior experience designing and delivering enterprise solutions to the business enabling change, cost saving, technology advances and overall technology portfolio delivery. You will be able to promote technology -friendly services to the wider business and take accountability for L&D, employee engagement, recognition, performance and talent management within the IT function and wider business areas.
