A renewable energy industry leader providing clean, reliable and affordable energy, is looking for a commercial legal counsel to join their Newcastle in-house team.

Responsibilities of your new role

As legal counsel you will be responsible for:

  • Providing support to the relevant business partners (Onshore, Offshore and Service teams) including sales, procurement and tendering teams plus counselling the business partners on a wide range of legal topics;
  • Ensuring effective legal risk management when reviewing, drafting and negotiating Turbine Supply Agreement, Service and Warranty Agreements;
  • Advising the business on internal rules and governance processes and support them to obtain internal approvals;
  • Ensuring internal governance is adhered to prior to submission of tenders and during customer negotiations;
  • Managing and mitigating risks by analysing the contractual position and set the right strategy to achieve the best possible result for the business;
  • Supporting the business advising on contract interpretation and developing strategies for, and resolving major claims and disputes;
  • Cooperating with colleagues in other jurisdictions and sharing knowledge internally by providing in-depth legal training to the business and colleagues in the legal community; and
  • Advising on a range of ancillary issues and documents, such as bonds, guarantees and direct agreements.

Skills, experience and qualifications

The team are looking to hear from legal counsel candidates able to demonstrate:

  • Qualified lawyer with excellent academic credentials.
  • 2+ years of PQE within an international business or law firm.
  • Experience in complex international project business, construction, engineering or other infrastructure projects, claim management and/ or arbitration.
  • The ability to deal confidently and build strong relations with senior business colleagues.

The legal counsel will be offered a competitive reward package consisting of an attractive base salary, a generous bonus based on your on-target performance, a pension contribution of up to 10%, and 26-days holidays plus bank holidays.
