GENERAL COUNSEL, OIL AND GAS, ABU DHABI

CLIENT: This is a rare General Counsel position, available for candidates looking to head up a division of a large and diverse oil and gas company.

ROLE: You will have a commercial reporting line to the CEO and be tasked with both establishing and developing the legal function. The work will cover a broad spectrum of O&G sector work such as corporate, commercial, projects, construction, disputes, compliance and regulatory. It will range from large deals such as M&A's with extensive drafting and negotiating, and working with JV partners, down to more general day to day matters. The role will also involve mentoring and training up junior staff.

CANDIDATE: It is essential that you have trained and qualified with a strong international standard law firm, and also have at least some in-house experience. It is a senior level role and candidates will need between 10 - 15 years' PQE. However, the department is young and up and coming, they are unlikely to consider an established and senior General Counsel or a seasoned partner from a law firm. Your skill sets should have extensive experience in O&G and large projects work, as well corporate, commercial and standard in-house work. A emphasis will be put into candidates with IOC / NOC experience, as well as listed companies.

It will be hugely beneficial to be based in the region already, and although overseas applications will be considered, this only likely to be the case if you have distinct exposure to the Middle East market.
