The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education
(WICHE) is seeking a president who will
serve as the CEO of the organization and will lead the agency under
programmatic and fiscal policy guidelines established by the
48-member WICHE commission.
About WICHE: Established by Congress in 1953,
WICHE (one of four U.S. regional interstate compacts) and its 16
member states and territories work collaboratively to expand
educational access and excellence for all citizens of the West. By
promoting innovation, cooperation, resource-sharing, and sound
public policy among its members and their institutions, WICHE
strengthens higher education's contributions to the region's
social, economic, cultural, and civic life.
About the role: The president will oversee an
exceptionally talented staff organized into five operating units -
Policy Analysis and Research, Programs and Services, the WICHE
Cooperative for Educational Technology (WCET), Behavioral Health,
and Administrative Services. The president submits an annual
workplan to the Commission for its approval and then is responsible
for ensuring that the work produced to accomplish this workplan is
of exceptional quality and service to higher education in the
West.
The president must work collaboratively with leaders of other
regional and national organizations involved with higher education,
including governors and legislative leaders and staff throughout
the West, state and institutional leaders of higher education, and
federal legislative and executive branch leaders.
WICHE is seeking an individual with strong management acumen
appropriate to a nonprofit setting. Also important is a history of
success with seeking and obtaining external funding via grants and
contracts.
The successful candidate for President will demonstrate vision,
initiative, passion, exceptional leadership, and energy to maintain
and improve WICHE's reputation. He/she will be a recognized leader
of higher education - recognized more for his/her vision of the
future rather than merely on past accomplishments.
An advanced degree demonstrating WICHE's enduring commitment to
