With an enrollment of approximately 2,100 students from every region of the United States and 14 countries, Claflin University is a comprehensive institution offering undergraduate degrees in 34 areas and four graduate programs, the Master of Business Administration, the Master of Science in Biotechnology, the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, and the Master of Science in Criminal Justice. RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Associate Vice President shall provide senior level office/administrative support to overseeing the day-to-day management of the Office of Institutional Advancement at Claflin University and assist the Advancement team with its fundraising efforts. Duties include supervising the directors and managers of the Annual Fund/Alumni Relations, Special Events; setting strategies and goals and monitoring progress toward goals in coordination with the directors; serving as administrative liaison for the Vice President; working with trustees, the Board of Visitors, and volunteers as assigned; monitoring the budget for the Division of Institutional Advancement and, in coordination with the Vice President, preparing and presenting the annual budget; attending regular prospect research rating meetings; preparing and maintaining a policy and procedures manual for the Division as well as accurate records on endowed and annual scholarship funds. He/She shall be responsible for the staff development program for all Division staff, including orientation for new employees. Furthermore, the Associate Vice President shall coordinate and oversee the successful planning and implementation of Commencement, Homecoming, and the Presidential Scholarship Gala, as it relates to fundraising. He/She will be responsible for the fundraising efforts of the annual UNCF/Community Campaign and the successful planning and implementation of the annual Scholarship Appreciation Luncheon for donors and contact persons. This position shall write and prepare various divisional reports (i.e., annual, administrative conference, institutional effectiveness report card, Board of Trustees, etc.) for the Vice President's signature. The Associate Vice President shall assist the Vice President in directing the University's Capital Campaigns and perform other duties assigned by the Vice President within the scope of the position. QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree and at least five years of progressive leadership experience in Institutional Advancement with a strong background in fundraising, special events, alumni affairs, annual giving, advancement (stewardship services), and communications is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to develop fundraising programs, events, staff development programs, retreats, and presentations. The candidate must have the knowledge and skill to operate computer applications and various software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, etc.) and must exhibit excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate leadership and supervisory ability as well as the ability to multitask. The candidate must be able to work without supervision and work well with Division staff. SALARY: Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
