We are seeking an engaged, dedicated scholar and educator who is
committed to public education with a record of success both
internally and externally with PK-20 partners. We also seek a
leader with a nationally recognized scholarly and professional
record in the department's disciplines and with international
interests and connections.
Stephen F. Austin State University is a comprehensive, regional
university located in Nacogdoches, Texas. Enrolling
approximately 12,500 students, SFA offers more than 80
undergraduate majors and 120 areas of study within six academic
colleges--business, education, fine arts, forestry and agriculture,
sciences and mathematics, and liberal and applied arts. The
university, located on a beautifully wooded campus about two hours
north of Houston, Texas, is accredited by the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The Perkins College of
Education (COE) is accredited by the National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and will seek Council
for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accreditation
in 2021.
The Department of Secondary Education and Educational
Leadership, one of five departments or schools in the COE, has a
long-standing reputation of developing high quality educators in
Texas and is a leader within the COE in securing external
funding. Department faculty are committed to social justice,
to inclusive school communities, and to the preparation of school
leaders who reflect a scholar-practitioner stance. The
department serves approximately 550 students (majors and minors;
undergraduate, graduate, doctoral) and employs 20 full-time faculty
and staff.
Our department offers the following programs:
an undergraduate EC-12 or 7/8-12 professional educator
minor/concentration leading to teacher certification
a Master of Arts in Teaching program with initial teacher
certification
a Master of Education in Secondary Education program
a Master of Education in Educational Leadership program with
principal certification
a superintendent preparation and certification program
a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership program
Programs within the department require strong field and clinical
experiences/practicums/internships and reflect our commitment to
partnerships with public schools and other agencies.
Department programs utilize online and face to face
approaches.
This is a full-time, 12-month, faculty position responsible for
serving as the chief administrator of an academic department while
exemplifying those faculty qualities most valued by the academic
community: teaching excellence, scholarly and creative
activities, and a commitment to university, professional, and
community service. The selected candidate will be responsible
for facilitating the development of department, college, and
university policy; managing human and fiscal department resources;
promoting collegiality in the department; and serving as an
advocate for the department's needs within the
university.

action/equal opportunity employer committed to
diversity. SFA is committed to achieving excellence
through cultural diversity. The university encourages
