You should ideally be at least 5 years PQE, preferably having spent time in-house within a commodities trading environment and have a wealth of experience in oil trading law. The role will be based in the City and will focus on supporting the Commercial physical oil/products trading, storage and associated marine operations and UK regulatory compliance.
Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities
- Identification of legal risks, advising on implications for the business and appropriate steps to mitigate such risks.
- Advising on and negotiation of transactions and contracts in the following areas:
- physical oil/products trading, storage and associated marine operations;
- retail and wholesale fuel marketing;
- procurement, including IT contracts;
- business development opportunities.
- Advising on regulatory compliance in areas such as financial services (as it applies to energy commodities), environmental matters (e. permitting and REACH) and corporate governance (e. UK anti-bribery and money laundering, sanctions laws).
- Handling disputes.
- Supporting internal training and representing the Company on legal committees of trade associations.
- Liaison with external legal counsel as required in accordance with prescribed legal/budget process.
Critical Skills
- Legally authorised to work in the United Kingdom on a regular, full-time basis without restrictions
- UK Qualified Solicitor with at least 5 years relevant PQE with at least some of it spent in-house.
- Sound knowledge of commercial & contracts law and UK regulatory environment.
- Experienced in advising on physical oil/products trading and associated marine operations and regulatory compliance.
- Ideally also experienced in other areas referred to above.
- Exercises good judgement by examining issues, generating solutions and making sound and timely decisions.
- Demonstrates strategic thinking.
