A multinational, diverse business with a division which provides services and energy to private and public sector entities across the UK is looking for an legal counsel. You will be required to provide timely and commercial legal advice, to assist in the negotiation and drafting of commercial and contractual matters such as tenders, projects, variations and on-going contractual and operational matters and to deal with risk management, governance and compliance for the division. The role is based in London.
The Role
You will have responsibility for legal support on a broad range of high value complex commercial outsource transactions. Some construction experience is valuable but not essential. In short you will:
- Provide commercial legal advice;
- Assist in the governance of transactions at local and group level;
- Work closely with colleagues including throughout the Group and with customers;
- Manage of external legal resource on particular projects;
- Provide advice to operational teams on appropriate strategies in relation to disputes that have not yet been formalised;
- Involvement in developing and delivering toolkits and legal awareness training on various issues for colleagues across the business on the legal process such as how to use precedent documentation, how to avoid legal pitfalls
The Lawyer
You will have:
- Good knowledge of relevant areas of law including outsourcing, , contract and commercial. Knowledge of the Construction Act, energy performance and CDM Regulations preferred but not essential.
- Experience of UK public procurement.
- Knowledge of UK construction industry standard forms preferred.
- Strong drafting and negotiating skills.
- Ability to deal with risk management, governance and compliance.
- Ability to manage a sizeable workload in a fast paced environment.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required.
- Comfortable with stakeholder management but also able to work with colleagues at all levels of the business
- Experience of commercial outsource transactions.
- Strong commercial contracts lifecycle experience.
- Experience in advising on pre-litigation contract disputes.
- Experience in leading on complex transactions
- Some experience of energy supply, EPCs, the CDM Regulations, the UK Construction Act and public procurement preferred.
The Benefits
With a basic salary up to £80k depending on experience, car allowance and 10% bonus as well as other package details. This is a well remunerated and career orientated role.
