Financial Controller - Talent Management Agency - London - £70,000 +


THE COMPANY
An owner managed Talent Management business are looking for a Financial Controller to join their established finance team.

THE ROLE
This is a critical role within the finance team supporting both the UK business and Group as a whole. The candidate will be required to demonstrate strong levels of integrity, professionalism, and gravitas as well as excellent management skills, and strong technical and commercial expertise. Reporting to the Finance Director UK, the Financial Controller UK has responsibility for managing the day-to-day activities of the UK finance team:

  • Ensuring completeness, accuracy, and the timeliness of all related transactions, balances, monthly closings, reporting, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Providing high quality analysis to support results and business decisions.
  • Ensuring transactions are processed in accordance with the controls environment;
  • Driving a continuous improvements process for the function and ensuring a business service culture is promoted;
  • Ensuring that team resources are matched to the departments requirements, that team members are adequately trained including development of knowledge in business wide issues, that the team maintain adequate relationships with the divisions they are supporting;
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Operational

  • Oversee routine meetings with Department Heads/Finance Managers to ensure performance is being appropriately tracked/costs controlled and to understand the nature of each department and the issues they face.
  • Key point of contact for Department Heads and Managers.
  • Ensuring that deals and sales are tracked appropriately. Maintain record of client deals across the group, ensuring division finance functions produce client reporting on a timely basis.
  • Support relationships with external clients and suppliers as appropriate.
  • Being a key point of contact with the external banking team and supporting the Finance Director to ensure that the service provided meets business requirements.
Reporting and Controlling
  • Collation and analysis of the group consolidated reports, liaising with divisional finance functions where necessary to produce:
  • Group P&L and balance sheet (both management and statutory) - Group budget and forecasts - Group cash flow reporting and forecasts (including quarterly bank loan covenant testing).
  • Preparation of the monthly management accounts, forecast and budgets for the central functions, ensuring effective cost control.
  • Ensure the recharging (and allocation) of internal costs is performed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Central coordination, preparation, and review of statutory group accounting, audit, and tax, liaising with auditors and tax advisors as required.
  • Liaising with divisional finance functions to ensure all corporation tax returns for the group are prepared and quarterly installment payments are made on a timely basis.
  • Oversee group payroll and pension administration, liaising with payroll bureau and pension advisers. Preparing information for annual P11d, P60s and PSA submissions to HMRC and ensuring monthly PAYE/NIC payments are made on time.

THE PROFILE
The ideal candidate will be a Qualified Accountant (c. 7+ years PQE) with experience of working within a finance function of a media and entertainment business. Preferably the candidate will have experience in client/royalties reporting, consolidations and inter-company transactions, and is used to working in a controls based environment. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate the following key competencies:

  • Strong background in accounting, particularly in UK GAAP, group consolidations, and taxation;
  • Self-starter who can equally thrive in an environment where they need to take the initiative and initiate change, or take instruction from the Finance Director;
  • Ability to drive tasks/ projects through to completion;
  • Highly organised with the ability to work to tight deadlines;
  • Track record of effective collaboration across teams & a positive attitude to change. Able to demonstrate examples of improving processes, adding value and influencing people;
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills;
  • Experience in mentoring/managing a team;
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills;
  • Strong analytical and process-oriented mind;
  • Experience of setting up and maintaining an effective internal control environment;
  • Experience of developing/implementing finance systems;
  • Advanced Excel skills.
