THE FIRM

One of the leading providers of legal services within health and social care, professional discipline and social housing.

THE ROLE

The Regulatory team acts for many regulatory bodies involved in the field of professional discipline in the health and legal sectors.

The work largely involves presenting cases but also requires managing an investigatory caseload and preparing those cases for hearings before panels and committees of the relevant regulators and the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT).

The firm's clients are asking them to undertake increasing amounts of advocacy, which typically involves interim and substantive hearings.

This includes shorter more straightforward hearings as well as more complex cases before the SDT and sexual misconduct, dishonesty allegations / fraud and serious instances of deficient professional performance before the statutory committees of healthcare regulatory clients. Hearings are usually contested and in the majority of cases the respondents are represented, most often by counsel.

To meet this client need, they are looking to grow the barrister team by recruiting a 4YC +

It is likely that there will also be opportunities to appear in the High Court on appeals from decisions of the regulators and, depending on experience, judicial reviews and other High Court cases.

ABOUT YOU

While previous experience in the field of regulation and professional discipline including HCPC is strongly preferred, it is not essential.

Candidates will however be expected to be able to demonstrate at interview that they are self motivated and commercially minded, as well as having good interpersonal skills and being able to work effectively in teams.

This is a great opportunity to join a friendly, dynamic and expanding team in a market leading firm with the opportunity to influence and shape the ways the advocacy service evolves moving forwards.
