JOB SUMMARY : The Office of Internal Audit Services (IAS) provides a full spectrum of audit services for university colleges, functions, processes, and systems. IAS provides assurance to the President, the Church Educational System (CES) Audit Committee, the Board of Trustees, and other key stakeholders by systematically and objectively evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of university operations. Information technology (IT) is critical to university operations. This position, with oversight from the Director of Internal Audit Services, directs and leads the IT audit effort of the university.
The IT Audit Senior Manager is a hands-on, results-oriented professional, with an integrated auditor skill set, which is used to evaluate and provide assurance regarding information reliability, information security, and specific aspects of operations and internal control. This person uses their many skills to efficiently and effectively evaluate some of the most complex information systems, processes, risks, and transactions. They consistently reach and communicate accurate conclusions. They support and inspire their co-workers and clients by consistently generating relevant, meaningful ideas and clearly communicating recommendations for potential improvement. The IT Audit Senior Manager is self-motived and self-directed in their own tasks, while also leading other project team members, and working very effectively with others around campus.
RESPONSIBILITIES : The primary responsibility of the IT Audit Senior Manager is to independently and objectively perform IT audit work for the university. These efforts include effectively setting IT audit priorities, overseeing successful audit projects, continuously monitoring controls, providing administrative support, and developing staff and students. Work responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
IT Audit Priorities
- Schedule annual IT audit projects (eg, prioritized based on risk and value)
- Interact effectively with key stakeholders (ie, Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors, Department Chairs, Administrators, Faculty, Auditors, and other staff and subject matter exports)
- Provide oversight and direction to other audit staff regarding analytics, techniques, and tools
- Support IT audit projects being led by other members of the Internal Audit staff
Audit Projects
- Supervise and direct other staff (full-time and part time) for all phases of an audit project
- Provide evaluations on work performed by assigned project team members
- Prepare high-quality reports and deliverables
- Follow up on previous audit observations and recommendations
Continuous Monitoring
- Maintain awareness of significant risks and trends (ie, for BYU, the industry) through news, data trends, and other means
- Provide Real Time input and feedback regarding internal control in university meetings
- Support or lead certain aspects of implementation and ongoing enhancements of auditing methods
- Remain current with university policy and procedures, key information system updates, and operations
Administrative Support
- Manage and supervise staff and students by providing project specific feedback and annual performance evaluations
- Participate in office stewardship reporting (one-on-one meeting with direct reports)
- Recruit student audit employees, and as needed, Full time employees
- Help implement and maintain software and other tools for the Office of Internal Audit Services
Develop Staff/Students
- Mentor staff and students regarding needed skills and career path
- Teach staff and students data mining techniques, and other audit methodologies
- Develop and facilitate training programs (ie, auditing/IT) for staff and students, and as needed, other key stakeholders
- Provide experiential learning for students on each audit engagement
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum education: Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or Computer Science. (Related Master's degree is preferred)
- Minimum experience: At least six years of relevant professional experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified herein. (An additional four years is preferred)
- One of the following professional designations (exam must be passed): Certified Information systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), CPA Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP), or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
- A proven record of success with facilitating and completing deliverables in the following areas:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong project management skills. Ability to lead, manage, and mentor staff and student employees.
- Financial reporting and information technology processes, controls, and risks.
- Current and emerging technologies (eg, databases, web development, virtualization, operating systems, and security technologies).
- COSO, CobIT, and/or other leading business and control frameworks (eg, ITIL, CSC, NIST, and ISO).
- Key domains of information technology general controls, including change management, access to programs and data, computer operations, and system development.
- Complex IT infrastructures and application platforms.
- Ability to work overtime, as deadlines and circumstances may require.
Additional Comments: Occasional out-of-town travel is required (ie, for projects and professional training)
