Our client is a major UK construction business with a 50-year track record, and a reputation for innovation and a forward-thinking approach.  The business is based on the Essex/London border, easily commutable from Cambridge, Essex, Hertfordshire and any part of London with access to the Central Line.

Due to the departure of a Senior Solicitor, there is a requirement for a qualified lawyer to join the Legal Services department and provide high-quality advice on a range of legal and commercial issues and disputes. You will have responsibility for the entire contractual lifecycle for all projects, from front-end negotiations to the construction contract through to resolving any contentious issues that arise throughout the duration of the project and post-completion.  In addition, you will be responsible for a variety of ad-hoc legal and commercial issues, including delivering training to the wider business.

Requirements
You will be be a qualified solicitor or barrister with substantial (minimum 5 years') post-qualification experience in the construction field (either contentious or non-contentious), and will have demonstrable experience of JCT standard forms of contract.  Due to the autonomous nature of this role, it would be beneficial if you have spent time working in-house for a contractor, although candidates coming directly from a law firm or from a consultancy or similar background will also be considered.

What can I expect in return?
The successful candidate will be rewarded with a competitive package including a basic salary of up to £75,000 and a company car (or car allowance in lieu).  In addition, the role offers excellent work/life balance, with a standard working day of 9am to 5.30pm and, whilst there are occasions on which you will be required to work outside of these hours in order to fulfil the requirements of the role, this is the exception rather than the norm.
