FORTUNE 100 TECHNOLOGY GROUP, SENIOR/LEGAL COUNSEL
FORTUNE 100 TECHNOLOGY GROUP, an outstanding employer and well-known global business with exciting innovative products and a first-class reputation is looking for a Senior or Legal Counsel to join their global legal team based in one of their central London or Thames Valley offices working with clients across Europe.
The role
In this position you will work with some of the most exciting legal and business issues in technology today working on cutting edge products. You will focus on client groups in a number of European countries, particularly Italy, Germany and Israel. Working in tight partnership and as a trusted adviser to colleagues from business, engineering, sales, finance, supply and government affairs you will negotiate and draft a wide range of contracts (technology licenses, IP transactions, development, partnership, beta, platform, cloud, hardware, software and services); advising on IP, competition, privacy, marketing, licensing and regulatory issues; advise on legal risk and business strategies; participate in knowledge sharing and leadership teams.
The People
The quality of people is outstanding - the company is very selective. You would be working with some of the brightest and most intelligent legal professionals in technology. There is great camaraderie at all levels, people are friendly and helpful. 92% of employees are proud to tell others they work there. The company has a strong focus around culture, integrity and respect and the atmosphere is trusting and empowering. Flexible working is encouraged.
Career and Development
This is a great company in which to really develop and push yourself. The legal team enjoys excellent regular training, coaching and mentoring from the managers and huge personal development opportunities. If you are interested in progressing in your career, moving abroad or have an interest in another legal area, it is easy to do so. Your manager will be keen to make sure you are using your true talents, that you are happy in your role and that you are progressing.
The Legal Team
Worldwide, the legal department consists of 300 lawyers. The General Counsel is held in awe and admiration by his team - he is funny, strategic, incredibly intelligent and hard-working. His philosophy is to “hire people smarter than himself”. This attitude is cascaded down to Regional Legal Directors and the GC acknowledges that the team members are the pillars of the success of the legal function.
As a new member of the team you would find the degree of sharing of knowledge and resources truly amazing. Every conceivable task has been automated. The tracking of contracts is brilliant; the approval process is totally automated; there is a separate group of lawyers who do the NDA agreements with very fast return times; no lawyer ever has to chase a contract signature or copy - it is all taken care of by a specialist global function. There is constant sharing of information and experience.
In-house counsels here are business enablers and are often the people recommending a decision to their executive teams — and in some cases, they make the judgement calls themselves. The legal team is viewed and respected as business enabler, strategic agents and opportunity makers.
Your skills and experience
Our client is seeking either:
- Senior Legal Counsel - an experienced lawyer with more than 8 years PQE* gained in a top law firm and with some in-house experience. An IT legal specialist with exposure to next generation technology, preferably within the semiconductor or chip sectors.
- Legal Counsel with 3-7 PQE* - an IT lawyer from a top law firm and with some in-house experience.
