Chair, Department of Curriculum and Instruction Samford University's Orlean Beeson School of Education invites
individuals interested in serving in a Christian university
environment to submit applications for the full-time, tenure-track
12-month faculty position of chair of the Department of Curriculum
and Instruction at the associate or professor level.
The department chair is responsible for teaching courses each
academic semester and for the operations of the curriculum and
instruction department. The chair is expected to work collegially
with department faculty in program development and curricular
changes, provide department reports as needed, develop recommended
schedules and faculty loads for the department, recruit and
recommend admission for prospective graduate students, represent
the curriculum and instruction faculty to the administration, and
work with faculty as related to personal matters. The chair teaches
a reduced faculty load that may include evening or weekend courses
delivered on campus, out of town, and online. The chair is expected
to be involved with candidates on multiple levels, including
service in action research and dissertation research. The
individual is expected to participate fully in scholarship and
service to the profession, school, university and community.
Collaboration and building effective partnerships with K-12 schools
and the Alabama State Department of Education is expected.
Qualified candidates will be graduates of an accredited school
with an earned doctoral degree in educational leadership or a
related field, must possess excellent interpersonal relationship
skills, organizational skills, and the ability to lead through
example. Candidates are expected to be experienced researchers with
a strong record of research and publication with K-12 experience.
Experience working with graduate candidates; multiple teaching
delivery systems; a history of successful performance in the
faculty role; commitment to academic excellence; and the ability to
effectively work with faculty, students, and colleagues is
expected. Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation
(CAEP) and Specialized Professional Association (SPA) experience a
must. Leadership experience in a regional or national organization
and experience with Science, Math, Technology and Mathematics
(STEM) initiatives is desired. Candidates must be willing to
support the Christian mission of Samford University and the Orlean
Beeson School of Education.
Academic rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications,
experience, previous academic teaching experience, and scholarship
accomplishments.
Orlean Beeson School of Education includes four departments:
Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, Educational
Leadership, and Human Development and Family Life. The Department
of Curriculum and instruction has traditional and nontraditional
master's programs, including Elementary Education, Gifted
Education, K-12 Collaborative Special Education, and Educational
