The Organisation:

IWM (Imperial War Museums) is a family of five museums: IWM London; IWM North, IWM Duxford; the Churchill War Rooms; and the historic ship HMS Belfast.

IWM are a global authority on conflict and its impact on people's lives - from 1914 through to the present day and beyond. They continue to lead on a mission of developing and communicating a deeper understanding of the causes, course and consequences of war. IWM offer a vibrant and diverse programme of exhibitions and programmes across their branches. They have significantly increased their commercial footprint in recent years and this is now an important source of income for the organisation. This has been part of a wider strategy of innovation and looking forward.

The Opportunity:

The Assistant Director of Resources will support the Executive Director of Collections and Governance in the management of Finance, HR and Procurement. This newly created role includes responsibility for six direct reports (four in Finance, two in HR, and one in Procurement) and approximately 17 indirect. Priorities will include providing leadership to your direct reports and improving the systems and processes of each team. The postholder will be part of the Senior Management team (Assistant Directors Group) and the role includes responsibility for delivering strategic initiatives. These will include the Financial Sustainability Strategy and an HR strategy to enable IWM to best meet its key priorities and achieve business change. This is an opportunity to take on a broad role with real potential to impact this exciting organisation.

What you'll need to succeed:

The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with previous experience in a similar role, ideally in the cultural sector. You will not only be able to demonstrate financial leadership but also a practical understanding and experience of operational and strategic Human Resource management. Some experience of Procurement would also be an advantage. An understanding of the charity and/or public sector but also of commercial considerations would also be an advantage. This is a leadership role and requires someone who has previously worked as part of a Senior Management Team. You will be a strong communicator with the ability to liaise across various stakeholder levels including influencing and winning support for new initiatives and projects.

Please apply now to be considered or call Peter O'Sullivan at Hays Senior Finance for a confidential discussion about the opportunity
