Outstanding broad ranging role reporting to the General Counsel at this leading shipping company. Continued expansion has resulted in the need to hire a 2nd lawyer to undertake a broad ranging role. Key responsibilities include:
Working closely with key stakeholders throughout the group's business divisions, you will ensure that the group's exposure to legal risk is appropriately managed and that best practice corporate governance is followed.


You will deliver commercial, pragmatic and prompt legal support to the group's divisions across the globe ensuring that the key legal and contractual risks are considered and effectively mitigated and/or escalated. In addition, you will assist with tender processes and engagement/mandate documents, reviewing, drafting and negotiating non-standard terms and services contracts, and ensuring that contracts are in line with the group's policies and risk framework.


The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal support for the group's on-boarding processes, particularly providing advice on sanctions and compliance questionnaires, assisting with the development of standard terms of business and template commercial contracts, advising on non-template confidentiality agreements and on obligations and tactics in any contractual disputes or enforcement action.


Other duties include the following:

  • Reviewing and drafting non-standard employment terms and advising on contentious employment matters, particularly in relation to post-termination restrictions.
  • Reviewing IT and other services contracts to assist the Group IT Director and other stakeholders with group procurement.
  • Maintaining a contract register for the head office and assisting with divisional contract records.
  • Providing legal assistance with any strategic developments, including M&A and joint ventures.
  • Assisting with legal aspects of the group's real estate and intellectual property portfolios.
  • Helping to ensure that the group stays up-to-date on relevant legislative and other legal changes.
  • Managing all aspects of company secretarial work for the group's subsidiary companies, including board and shareholder resolutions, statutory registers and companies house filings. Liaising with local offices to ensure best practice is followed in overseas subsidiaries.
  • Liaising with external legal advisers, registrars, brokers and other service providers, as required, to ensure the quality, efficiency and value of services.
