Indiana Tech is a thriving, independent, teaching-oriented
institution with a focus on career/professional programs in
business, engineering, computer sciences, criminal sciences,
education, human services and many other concentrations. Indiana
Tech enrolls approximately 1,500 students in its traditional
programs on its main campus and over 8,000 students in Professional
Studies programs at 15 regional locations and online. Indiana
Tech's picturesque main campus is located on 45 acres near downtown
Fort Wayne. All academic programs are designed to provide students
with relevant and practical experiences, including an emphasis on
internships. The University is accredited by the Higher Learning
Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and
Schools.

Indiana Tech celebrates its diversity and considers it a
differentiator among peer institutions. Our 2018 spring student
body consist of 78% adult learners enrolled in the CPS programs,
38% of whom are African American. In addition, 53% of the
traditional-aged student body are students of color (20%
international students and 17% African Americans). Improving the
culture of diversity and inclusion in all areas is one of six
priority goals in the 2018 Strategic Plan, which is under
development with the guidance of President Karl Einolf, who started
in July 2017.

General Summary
The new position of Associate Vice President for Diversity &
Inclusion at Indiana Tech will serve as the campus Chief Diversity
Officer. The individual will be responsible for leading efforts to
develop and maintain a welcoming environment that embraces,
supports, and celebrates diversity. The AVP will build
collaborative partnerships across campus, especially with Academic
Affairs, to foster intentional learning opportunities for students,
faculty, and staff.

Additionally, the AVP

Leads and facilitates the development and implementation of a
strategic plan for inclusion and diversity, aligned with the
university strategic plan, with a focus on student academic
achievement and faculty/staff engagement and training;
Coordinates with others to provide diversity and inclusion
programs and initiatives across the university;
Collaborates with others to create and deliver co-curricular
programs and initiatives designed to enhance and expand
recruitment, retention, graduation, and career placement of
underrepresented, underserved students;
Provides leadership and/or partnership at all levels of the
university to promote and evaluate progress and impact of efforts
to be an inclusive and welcoming environment;
Represents the university on matters related to inclusion and
diversity.

Principal Duties &
Responsibilities

Engage the campus community in diversity and inclusion
initiatives and best practices, and develop and implement diversity
and multicultural programs and activities.
Serve as advisor to student organization(s), formally and
informally.
Support and participate in student-driven events and
activities.
Serve as a presenter and resource for programs and staff
development sessions on intercultural, multicultural, and diversity
appreciation/understanding.
Foster and support initiatives to improve retention,
persistence, and completion for under-represented or at-risk
students. Utilize data to identify where the university can support
students inside and outside the classroom, to ensure equity in
student success.
Assist with efforts to recruit and retain diverse faculty and
staff
Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to
proactively develop and implement plans, programs, and activities
that demonstrate diversity and inclusion.
Supervise International Services staff and functions, including
international student orientation, SEVIS reporting, and addressing
issues/concerns of international students.
Supervise and develop a team of student employees, and/or
volunteers, to support events and programming
Represent and promote Indiana Tech in the community

Qualifications

Ability to multi-task
Ability to manage and relate to students
Ability to work with large groups
Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed
Master's degree in education, social sciences, behavioral
sciences, higher education, or relevant discipline required.
Excellent communication skills
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to intercultural
appreciation, student development, and to continued cultivation of
a positive campus environment.
Strong demonstrated skills in leadership, budgeting, resource
management; demonstrated ability to lead through influence,
conversations, consultations, problem solving, and conflict
resolution
Proven record of engaging with a diverse set of stakeholders
and being committed to working collaboratively with other senior
colleagues to develop a common vision and direction. Must be able
to coach, mentor and inspire colleagues, students, faculty and
staff.
Proven record of fostering relationships and being comfortable
crossing organizational boundaries and adapting language and
delivery to different audiences.
Excellent command of contemporary diversity, equity, inclusion
and multiculturalism theories and issues, preferably, as they apply
to higher education.
Ability to apply creative solutions and ideas

Minimum Experience

Five years of relevant, successful and progressive experience
in an organizational leadership position with responsibility for
diversity and inclusion initiatives and programs.
Experience in intercultural/diversity program development,
student group advising.
Budget management experience and public speaking/facilitation
experience.

Preferred Experience

Three years of relevant, successful and progressive experience
in a higher education leadership position with responsibility for
diversity and inclusion initiatives and programs.
Experience designing programs and services that promote
cohesion and communication among all campus constituents, with
focus on individuals who are members of underrepresented
groups.

Working Conditions
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work
environment.
