Description
This Risk & Compliance Lawyer, Business Acceptance Team role is based in London and involves:
- You will be an integral part of the Risk and Compliance team with responsibility for or supporting a number of key elements of the firm's business acceptance risk management and compliance framework
- The Risk and Compliance team has a global and cross-functional advisory remit. Our aims are to promote a risk aware culture based on ethics and integrity and to ensure everyone is aware of and pro-actively manages risk at all levels across our business in a way that enables us to achieve our strategic and business objectives and protects our reputation
- We work closely with the Managing Partner, the Board, the Management Committee and our dedicated risk champions across the practice groups, in our international offices and within the Business Services departments
- This is a varied and challenging role which may over time be developed to increase scope and responsibility
- Facilitate the firm's global client and matter acceptance processes, particularly by analysing complex issues across the range of business acceptance risks, including conflicts, AML, sanctions, reputational and commercial risk
- Act as a contact point for queries and referrals from within the CT and the business in relation to business acceptance risks and the interpretation of relevant legislation, contractual and policy requirements
- Coordinate with partners (and other fee earners) to identify/prevent/manage and resolve potential legal and commercial conflicts, AML and client due diligence and sanctions issues (or other legal, regulatory or professional issues which are relevant to a decision concerning whether the firm may accept a particular mandate or client)
- Support due diligence into and approval of higher risk clients and matters
- Support the MLRO and/or Deputy MLRO in relation to Proceeds of Crime Act internal suspicion reports and, where necessary, liaising with the National Crime Agency in relation to the same; development and maintaining network of local MLPO officers
- Support RCMAN in respect of other review, monitoring and external reporting requirements concerning economic sanctions issues; external reporting to OFSI, as required, and liaison with other offices in respect of this issue
- Assist in the ongoing development, implementation and refinement of business enabling, risk-based compliance policy and procedures
- Carry out other discrete projects and any other tasks to support the efforts of the Risk & Compliance Department
- Assist with the delivery of awareness raising, education and training activities to the CT and the business in relation to business acceptance risks
Profile
This Risk & Compliance Lawyer, Business Acceptance Team role is based in London and requires:
Essential:
- Legally qualified and admitted to practise in the UK (or another common law or EU jurisdiction)
- Knowledge of legislation, ethical rules and guidelines and related compliance issues applicable to international law firms
- Expertise in at least two of the following three areas:
- Conflicts of interest
- Anti-money laundering and client due diligence
- Sanctions
- Experience working in a commercial (preferably international) environment
Desirable:
- Experience across the range of business acceptance risk issues including US conflict rules
