Client Details

Our Client a tax consultancy assisting private clients in dealing with HMRC enquiries / investigations and advising UK and International individuals on all aspects of UK taxation arrangements.

Description

Key responsibilities will include advocacy and running smaller matters (tax cases up to £100k in value - outside counsel will collaborate on matters valued over that figure. This is the main duty. In addition, the successful candidate will gain expertise in and exposure to:

• Managing HMRC enquiries.
• Direct liaison with clients (or other stakeholders) and their advisers to discuss the status of HMRC enquiries and litigation and to take any necessary instructions.
• Drafting updates to clients (or other stakeholders) and their advisers on a scheduled and ad hoc basis.
• Conducting negotiations with HMRC (with a view to settlement or on points of process).
• Responsibility for the day-to-day conduct of litigation, including drafting, commenting on and amending detailed instructions to Counsel, considering the points in dispute, the supporting evidence (and where further evidence might be required), the strengths of the case and general case strategy, and consulting with industry experts where required as part of the process.
• Discussing, considering and advising on any ad hoc issues relating to the litigation and the impact of those issues on the litigation.
• Complying with disclosure requests made by HMRC or contained in Tribunal directions.
• Participating in training sessions on tax developments.

Profile

The successful candidate will be a UK Qualified Barrister with up to five years of call.

There is not specific requirement for tax or trusts experience however, expertise in this area will be looked upon favourably.
