Director General, Chief Financial Officer

London

c. £130,000

The Department for Communities and Local Government is the lead Government department on housing, local government, local growth and devolution in England. We have four strategic priorities:

  • Driving up housing supply;
  • Increasing home ownership;
  • Devolving powers to boost local growth and
  • Supporting strong communities with excellent public services.

We are recruiting for a new Director General Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

This is a new role, which aims to strengthen our strategic and professional leadership on finance, commercial and wider corporate issues across the DCLG group.    It will bring together teams from existing functions - including a strong departmental finance function - as well as creating and developing our expertise in certain areas including commercial and digital strategies - to create a new DG-led function.   One of the first tasks of the successful candidate will be to recruit and build their new function, ensuring that it has the right expertise but also develops strong, constructive partnerships across the group and the wider civil service. This is an exciting and influential Board level role, reporting directly to the Department's Permanent Secretary, Melanie Dawes.

This role will suit an individual who is an outstanding, collaborative and inclusive leader, who is confident and credible with the type and range of senior stakeholders, inside and outside Government, with whom DCLG's interests lie, whether that is the centre of Whitehall such as HMT or the Cabinet Office, the Homes and Communities Agency or the housing building sector.   We strongly encourage candidates from both inside and outside the Civil Service.

If you think you fit the bill we would like to hear from you.

This is a full time permanent appointment based in central London, although a secondment arrangement will be considered.  The Department welcomes applications from people wishing to work flexibly, including those willing to job share.

Closing date for applications: Monday 6th November 2017
