Financial Controller
Exciting new opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to join the UK's largest independent aerospace and defence company!
Reporting the Head of Finance, the Financial Controller will be responsible for ensuring that the finance department of the business unit delivers its objective of supporting the efficient operation of the BU, and that all financial aspects of the business are properly planned and resourced at an operational level.
The Financial Controller will be responsible for:
- Development of financial knowledge and process discipline across the wider business with a clear focus on helping to improve overall business performance
- Ensure finance team is effective in delivering support to business through active coaching and mentoring to match output to business needs
- Work with central finance teams to provide reporting, budget and forecast information that meets or exceeds required standard
- Coordination and production of all periodical financial reporting information within the business unit and the Group which will include preparation of statutory accounts for entities under direct control and management of the audit process
- Ensure that proactive cash management is given the same importance as profit targets
- Ensure all finance team members have a clear development plan to support their annual PDR that meets the needs of both the individual and the BU
- Develop a continuous improvement plan related to all BU financial management and reporting
- Ensure compliance with external reporting and tax regimes such as VAT for the entities that fall solely within the business unit
- Ensure all balance sheet accounts are appropriately managed, controlled and reported
The successful candidate will have the following qualities and experience:
- Will be a fully qualified chartered (or equivalent) accountant
- Strong technical ability and post qualification experience, preferably with proven experience within engineering and/or projects based organisation.
- Desire to drive continuous improvement into existing processes.
- Analysing and presenting complex problems in the absence of perfect information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills which demonstrate clear and concise thought processes and the ability to lead others to a conclusion.
- Preparation of high quality financial analysis and reports for key internal stakeholders;
- Self-motivation and proactive approach to work, as this role requires a high degree of autonomy and independent thought to identify and creatively solve problems.
- Working and engaging with non-finance personnel at all levels and managing differing interests.
- A thorough understanding of foreign exchange currency exposure management and risk mitigation
- Proven experience in leading a finance team and providing mentoring in specialist areas.
