We currently have an excellent opportunity within the Legal and Company Secretariat Insurance team for a highly experience legal professional to join us as the Head of General Insurance and Protection Legal, leading our team of highly qualified lawyers. This is a role that matters as you'll develop, lead and inspire a legal team responsible for the delivery of high quality legal advice to the General Insurance and Protection business as well as deliver collaboratively across the Insurance and the wider Group.
You'll work effectively with Senior leadership and the Executives across Insurance and will have the ability to proactively challenge, advise and influence on a wide range of legal issues with particular emphasis on supporting the General Insurance and Protection business within Insurance. You'll advise on matters such as the negotiation of external and intra-group service level agreements, Ringfencing and Resolution obligations, distribution and underwriting agreements, data protection compliance, significant insurance product issues and large value claim related disputes, in order to protect and develop General Insurance and Protection the Insurance Division and the overall interests of the Group.
You'll be accountable for leading, managing and controlling the provision of all legal services to General Insurance and Protection while contributing to the strategic direction of the Insurance business and wider Group Legal community. You'll act as a trusted advisor, engaging key senior stakeholders to influence and advise on key business decisions including participation in Boards, Committees and other Fora. You'll inspire others to deliver, encourage simplicity, develop confidence and build trust across your legal team and the wider business and legal community.
You'll lead legal input into projects supporting General Insurance and Protection or the wider business and will effectively manage appropriate resource to meet the business needs. Excellent people management skills are essential as you'll be responsible for building and maintaining a high performing team and will ensure colleagues are inspired, led and developed effectively. You'll embed the Lloyds Banking Group culture and vision through visible leadership and will develop the medium term operational plans specific to supporting your own area, taking into account the wider business, legal/ governance and regulatory context.
You must have strong influencing skills, with the ability to deliver sound, practical and clear advice to colleagues at all levels within the Group. In addition, experience in managing and delivering complex projects and the proven ability to manage a legal department covering a diverse range of work in a large insurance group is essential.
You must be a qualified solicitor or barrister/ advocate with extensive experience within the Insurance Sector ideally gained within an in House or private practice team. You'll have in-depth experience in all aspects of insurance contractual work, product development, claims and regulatory advisory work. Knowledge of consumer credit law would be advantageous but is not essential.
You will be leading a team of 5 lawyers based in Newport and Leeds. We are flexible on location however depending on where you are based travel will be required to Newport, Edinburgh, London and Leeds.
