The Department of Advertising and Public Relations in the Klein
College of Media and Communication at Temple University invites
applications for the position of department chair, to begin summer
2018. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in
guiding a dynamic department of approximately 800 undergraduate
students. Temple University is a diverse, highest-research
university, located in Philadelphia, the country's fourth largest
media market. We seek an established scholar in public relations, advertising,
or both, with qualifications suitable for appointment as full
professor, whose teaching, research and experience complement
departmental offerings and strengths (().
The successful candidate will possess the dedication, vision and
leadership skills to guide the department in its mission to respond
to the challenges and opportunities of educating students in
advertising and public relations in the digital age, to engage in
the community, to collaborate with industry professionals, and to
develop innovative research. A Ph.D. is preferred, and extensive
experience in the academy is required. Applicants should have an
established scholarly research trajectory and a record of teaching
commensurate with the qualifications for full professor.
The Lew Klein College of Media and Communication is among the
largest comprehensive colleges of communication in the nation. The
college houses four departments: Advertising and Public Relations,
Journalism, Media Studies and Production, and Communication and
Social Influence. Graduate degrees across the college include an
M.A. in Media Studies and Production, an M.A. in Journalism, an
online M.S. in Communication Management, an M.S. in Globalization
and Development, and an M.S. Specialization in Strategic
Advertising and Marketing, offered in partnership with Temple's Fox
School of Business. The college also offers a Ph.D. in Media and
Communication. The college enrolls nearly 3,000 undergraduate
students and more than 100 graduate students. The university
community at large includes nearly 38,000 students in the region
