Financial Conduct Authority
Senior Associate – Payment Systems Regulator
£50,000 - £85,000
Canary Wharf, London
Reference: PSR00013

Set the priorities of a new payments regulator

In 2013, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) became the new regulator of the UK financial services industry. With an updated structure and vision, we are striving to make financial markets work well to ensure a fair deal for all. This includes setting up a new regulator, the Payment Systems Regulator (PSR), which will oversee payment systems in the UK such as the main inter-bank and international card schemes, and be focussed on competition, innovation and the interests of service users.

It’s an excellent opportunity to play a central role in establishing the new regulator as you help set the PSR’s early policy priorities and develop regulatory tools that will be put into place in April 2015. Ready to get stuck into significant and high profile challenges, you will support policy delivery by providing specialist advice on and assessing the impact of potential regulation on the industry and its participants. Shaping, translating and applying the policy issue framework, carrying out investigations and market reviews, and dealing with complaints will also fall within your remit.

To succeed in this intellectually challenging role you will need to be a qualified lawyer with a competition and economic regulation background. You may come from a competition authority, an economic regulator, an economic consultancy, a law firm, or a regulated organisation. You will preferably have the transferable skills and knowledge of UK systems and financial services to hit the ground running. Your good analysis and drafting skills will be matched by your ability to work collaboratively and build relationships across the FCA.
