Are you motivated to use your high-calibre finance and accounting skills to make a difference to the lives of people in Africa? Riders for Health (Riders) are looking for a senior individual for the role of Finance Director (FD) who will be responsible for all financial matters of Riders.

Riders is dedicated to the fight against preventable disease in Africa. Our pioneering work ensures that African health workers can reach their widespread communities using motorcycles and other vehicles, maintained in such a way that they never break down. The management of transport is the most neglected and yet one of the most vital aspects of development.

The FD will assess financial performance against both the annual budget and Riders long-term strategy, develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the executives and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations. You will require excellent leadership ability to develop a first-class finance team and instil a sense of shared responsibility.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned and mature leader with at least 12 years of broad finance experience and 5 years plus post qualification experience. You will ideally have experience managing the whole finance function (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) for a complex non-profit with multiple funding sources, including government contracts. Alternatively having experience of working for a commercial company with operations in multiple African countries and/or transportation or logistics experience would also be desirable.

The role would suit a candidate available for immediate hire, but certainly someone who can handle change management and is not daunted by a challenge.

• Extensive audit exposure in accordance with IFRS and UK GAAP;
• Qualified accountant (preferably ACA/ACCA/ACMA or equivalent) from a mid to top-tier firm;
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to quickly digest large quantities of financial data, effectively communicating the key points to multi-divisional stakeholders;
• Strong academic record;
• Current working knowledge of financial products, specifically Gilts and FX;
• Demonstrable progression within a banking or financial services financial control function;
• Experience of working on annual reports;
• Exceptional management skills, combined with a proven ability to influence key stakeholders.
