Summary

The Vice President of Commercial Products will own strategic vision and performance of all assigned operations functions. The VP will integrate a broad range of skills and expertise into development of repeatable and scalable service delivery processes and procedures. Provides leadership and direction to teams, as well as consults with cross-functional teams during the development and implementation of major initiatives to determine requirements that meet their strategic business needs. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is currently considering applicants for the position of Director of Communications. The Director of Communications reports to the VP of Marketing and Communications and is responsible for public and media relations, strategic planning, key messaging, website and social media management and the steady and strategic growth of positive international media coverage for the Museum, the Foundation and the Library and Archives.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the overall planning, organization and direction of the public and media relations activities of the Museum and the Library and Archives Manages Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announcements when needed. The Communications Director is also responsible to foster and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, national and international news media, other Communications Directors and publicists, partners organizations and consultants on behalf of the museum.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Creates strategic public and media relations plans to guide the efforts of the Communications team. Supervises department staff and interns. Directs public and media relations consultants (local and national agencies). Handles all management responsibilities including but not limited to: Reviewing workload, schedules, assignments, and monitoring status of on-going projects to ensure that team meets deadlines. Assigns specific duties and projects, considering individual knowledge and experience. Monitors daily operations, provides direction and assists with completion of work when necessary. Works closely with Museum departments to gather information to illustrate various facets of the mission. Coordinates work activities with other departments. Recommends solutions to resolve complex issues. Evaluates performance, provides feedback and conducts staff performance evaluations.
2. Manages media relations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and the Library and Archives. Oversees and directs media relations consultants. Actively pursues editorial opportunities with local and national print, radio and broadcast media. Maintain up-to-date international media database. Manages media requests for interviews, images and information. Supervises all photography and video shoots on site. Manages use of Museum trademark and likeness and ensures that third parties are in compliance with Museum trademark policy.
3. Manages public relations activities. Creates multi-faceted public relations plans to coincide with media relations efforts. Works closely with the Marketing Department. Oversees plan execution. Measures success. Writes annual reports, scripts for videos, content for museum brochures. Oversees the museum's weekly enewsletter. Generates content. Creates and updates museum policies and procedures as necessary.
4. Manages museum messaging. Works with Vice President of Marketing and Communications to develop standard messages, language and copy for all marketing and communications materials. Develops, evaluates and adjusts messages for Museum leadership and spokespeople. Works closely with the Digital Content Producer to ensure that museum messaging is consistant across communications platforms.
5. Manages graphic design and print production. Manages projects and ensures Museum collateral materials are produced on time and within budget. Manages Graphic Design and Production Staff. Directs graphic design consultants when necessary. 6. Manages Museum website and electronic communication, oversees social media communications. Ensures that Museum website content is compelling, current, balanced and error-free. Pursues new multimedia technology to enhance the visitor experience on the Museum website. Actively pursues new ways to disseminate Museum messages. Seeks ways to engage new constituents and attract visitors via Internet technology.
7. Manages public and media relations surrounding the annual Induction Ceremonies. 8. Travels off-site and/or out of state when required.
Duties include but may not be limited to the above. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in related field. A minimum of seven (7) years professional marketing experience, including supervisory experience. Excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with clients and the public. Outstanding public speaking, verbal communication and presentation skills. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects concurrently. Maintains confidentiality in all assignments. Ability to successfully pass a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum reference check, background investigation and drug screening. Computer Literate: Microsoft Products; Database Management System. Ability to get along with other people.
WORK SCHEDULE: Ability to work up to 40 hours per week; any shift as assigned, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Ability to work additional hours as workload demands. Hours are primarily 8:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
